As an important way to learn English,English reading plays a crucial role in obtaining English information and developing English skills.It is a common phenomenon that college art majors’ English level is relatively weak.In order to consolidate their English foundation and improve their comprehensive English ability,strengthening English reading teaching is one of the most effective ways.However,there are still some problems in college art English reading teaching,for example,the traditional reading teaching model is hard to promote students’ learning initiative,students’ reading comprehension ability is not high,students’ reading motivation is not strong,etc.Therefore,improving the English reading level of college art majors has become the focus of researchers and teachers.Project-based learning aims to create dynamic learning tasks that are student-centred.This method pays attention to the learning process.It produces learning results in the form of projects to promote students’ initiative in learning,stimulate their learning motivation and improve their language application ability.This research takes Constructivist Learning Theory and Dewey’s “Learning by Doing” theory as theoretical references,applies project-based learning to college English reading for art majors,and mainly discusses the following questions:(1)What are the effects of the application of PBL on college art majors’ English reading achievements?(2)What are the effects of the application of PBL on college art majors’ English reading motivation?The research subjects are 62 freshmen from 2 classes majoring in broadcasting from a university in Lanzhou.The study lasted 18 weeks.The researcher adopted project-based learning in the experimental class(30 students)and PWP model in the control class(32 students).The researcher used English reading tests and English reading motivation questionnaires as research instruments and handed out reading test papers and reading motivation questionnaires to the two classes before and after the experiment,so as to record the changes in English reading achievements and English reading motivation.Data were collected and analyzed by SPSS 25.0.The results show that project-based learning can improve college art majors’ English reading achievements and enhance their English reading motivation more than PWP model.This provides some references for optimizing English reading teaching of art,improving and stimulating college art majors’ English reading achievements and English reading motivation.However,there are some points to be improved in this research,such as the small sample size and limited research time,which need to be paid attention to in future research. |
