The Influence Of SES And SSS On Intertemporal Choice

Socioeconomic Status(SES)refers to the identification and ranking of socioeconomic positions in society based on a specific economic calculation method and by referring to the economic volume of a relatively durable social group composed of members with different social status.Subjective Socioeconomic Status(SSS)refers to individuals’ perception and evaluation of their own economic level based on their own economic level and through comparison with other surrounding groups that are the same or different,with reference to the economic quality of the whole group.As measurement indicators to measure individual socioeconomic status,they are closely related to our lives.As an important life topic,the evaluation and calculation of SES and the perception and evaluation of SSS not only guide and shape the path and model of individual intertemporal choice,In addition,it will further lead to the lack of individual access to scarce material conditions and the disorder of distribution of limited psychological resources.Moreover,the cohesion of individuals will trigger the root challenge of the group to the stable operation of the society and the construction of a fair order to adhere to.Therefore,taking SES and SSS as the starting point of research to explore how it affects intertemporal choice not only helps us to further understand the role of SES and SSS in theory,but also provides reference for solving the economic short-sightedness and psychological reversal behavior caused by the dynamic changes of SES and SSS in practice.Through reviewing the existing literature studies on the relationship between SES and SSS and intertemporal choice,there are mainly problems in the following four aspects:First of all,the existing studies basically only combine the SES and SSS into the overall concept of poverty to explore the impact of poverty on intertemporal choice,which leads to confusion in explaining the impact of poverty on intertemporal choice.The influence of the SES and SSS dimension or whether combined with the other two dimensions on intertemporal choice needs to be further divided and clarified.Secondly,in the dimension of SES and SSS,intertemporal choice is not only affected by the stable factor of SES,but also easily affected by the unstable factor of fluctuating SSS caused by changes in various near-end objective conditions.Research materials on SSS fail to reflect the characteristics of changes in objective conditions.Third,existing studies mainly took SES and SSS as a single variable to separate intertemporal choice,but did not explore whether SES and SSS as complementary combinations would affect intertemporal choice.Finally,most of the existing studies on intertemporal choice focus on a single field,and there are few studies on whether SES and SSS will affect the domain consistency of intertemporal choice.This study takes SES and SSS as the entry point,social comparison theory and intertemporal choice model as the basis,and the money field and environment field in intertemporal choice as the entry point.Specifically,the relationship between SES and intertemporal choice is discussed in study 1,and the relationship between SSS and intertemporal choice is discussed in study 2.The third study is a validation review and deepening expansion of studies 1 and 2,to deeply demonstrate the relationship between the main effects of SES and SSS and intertemporal choice,and focus on the role of the interaction effects of SES and SSS in intertemporal choice.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The group with low SES was more inclined to gain short-term benefits than the group with high SES,The high SES and low SES groups had preference agreement in the monetary and environmental decision areas.(2)The priming group with high SSS preferred long-term benefits more than the priming group with low SSS and the SSS control group;The high SES,low SSS and control and SSS control groups had preference consistency in the areas of monetary and environmental choice;The effect of picture priming material for choice information is better than that of text priming material.(3)SES and SSS influence monetary intertemporal choice and environmental intertemporal choice respectively,with the main effect;SES and SSS influence the mutual interaction effect,and the growth of high SES and low SES can effectively change the delay discount preference of intertemporal choice.In the different domains of intertemporal choice,the SES and SSS have the domain preference consistency.
