Currently, there is a problem with English vocabulary teaching in which the teacher’s teaching methods are single, resulting in the students finding the learning process dull and uninteresting, and overall, the learning outcomes are unsatisfactory.Mind mapping is a knowledge visualization tool that can help students learn new information quickly and efficiently.Collaborative learning is currently a popular topic in educational research that advocates for group learning, which helps cultivate students’ multi-faceted abilities and meets the needs of talent cultivation in China. Therefore,by integrating mind mapping and collaborative learning modes,a teaching model suitable for teaching junior high school English vocabulary can be constructed, which has great practical significance. This teaching model can help teachers innovate their classroom teaching methods, boost students’ learning interest, and help them find a breakthrough in learning vocabulary knowledge in a happy learning process happily.Meanwhile,it can also promote mutual help among students and collaborative task completion. This cultivates their innovation consciousness and cooperative spirit, contributing to their development of humanistic literacy.Ultimately, students not only learn knowledge but also master good learning methods. This study uses vocabulary tests, questionnaires, and interview outlines as tools, guided by constructivism theory, depths of processing theory, knowledge visualization theory, and social interdependence theories. It takes on 88 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Wuhan City as the research subjects and attempt to explore the following two questions:(1)Can vocabulary teaching through mind mapping based on cooperative learning boost students’ interest in learning vocabulary and eventually improve their vocabulary level?(2)Can vocabulary teaching through mind mapping based on collaborative learning motivate students to think actively and exercise their ability to generalize and make associations? This study employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis to analyze the data.It uses SPSS 26.0 software to analyze student vocabulary test results and combine questionnaire and interview data to draw the following conclusions:(1)Vocabulary teaching through mind mapping based on cooperative learning can enhance students’ interest in learning vocabulary, promote the construction of a comprehensive conceptual knowledge system, deepen their understanding of vocabulary, and ultimately improve their vocabulary proficiency.Compared to traditional teaching methods, cooperative learning models supported by concept maps are beneficial in promoting students’ memorization of words and improving their vocabulary scores.(2)Based on cooperative learning, vocabulary teaching through mind mapping can help students develop their ability to summarize, induce and associate. This method can strengthen the connections between new and old words through association, stimulate students’ divergent thinking, and promote knowledge transfer.By analyzing and organizing vocabulary, students can exercise their abilities in summarizing, inducing, and associating by drawing mind maps individually or collaboratively. This study found that applying mind mapping in vocabulary teaching based on cooperative learning is effective for junior high school English education. It is hoped that this research can provide inspiration for improving deficiencies in junior high school English vocabulary teaching,as well as help students enhance their overall development of comprehensive abilities. |
