In the era of Big Data, data visualisation has become an important means of understanding and perceiving data. However, the challenge is faced with the sheer volume, diversity and complexity of information. To make information communication more efficient, the underlying cognitive and experiential needs of users need to be taken into account.Visual cognitive theory is an important theoretical basis for data visualisation design, studying the process of human visual perception and cognition of information.Amongst other things, there is a need to consider how to present data graphically;how to present data in a dynamic way to improve user attention and comprehension. This study addresses the problem of presenting data on Hainan University’s large instrument sharing platform, and proposes corresponding optimisation and innovation solutions in terms of efficiency,multi-dimensionality and recognition of data presentation. For example, the importance of data is highlighted through colours and shapes;a multi-dimensional visualisation scheme is adopted to present data from multiple dimensional perspectives, enabling users to gain an in-depth understanding of the data;and a highly interactive visualisation scheme is adopted to enable users to manipulate the data freely according to their needs. Finally, applying the visual cognitive theory-based data visualisation scheme to the interface design of Hainan University’s large-scale instrument sharing platform can effectively improve the efficiency of data presentation and user experience. This provides an effective design case reference for the visualisation construction of large instrument sharing information display at Hainan University.
