Research And Application Of "Subtraction" In Graphic Design

The style of simplicity in art design has always occupied a place in the long history,especially after the modernism,even in all kinds of debates,simplicity is still regarded as the sacred principle.The more operable "subtraction" was derived from the simplicity of artistic design.The constructivism movement emerged in the early 20 th century,pioneered by Kandinsky and Mondrian,and further promoted by the Bauhaus School.Later,under the influence of utilitarianism and pragmatism in the United States,subtraction reduced complexity and redundant elements.Emphasizing the essence and function of the design,highlighting the key points,making the design more concise,clear,easy to understand the characteristics,further has been widely used and developed.The relevant theoretical researches that are popular with subtraction design are also full of things.However,after investigation and analysis by the author,many researches focus on the research of blocks in each design field,or the presentation of subtraction of different design elements in each block.As we all know,any art design work stripped of its external space structure and material,can be compressed back to its essence of the original graphics,this is the first;Secondly,it is still rare to study the "subtraction" of graphics in the original appearance of various artistic design works in a more specific and systematic methodology.In a word,the specific methodological research on how to do subtraction in graphic design needs to be strengthened,which is exactly the significance and value of this study.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the background,research status,purpose and significance of the topic,as well as the research scope and methods.The second part and the third part are related theories of graphics and subtraction design,and combined with subtraction graphic design cases to explore its form and characteristics.The fourth part is the methodology summary of subtraction in graphic design,which is also the focus and difficulty of this paper.Finally,through the fifth part of the "bamboo shoot" element design practice to verify the methodology of this paper.Based on the metaphysical technique and the study of techniques,this study summarizes for the first time the methodology of how to "reduce" the object image in graphics.Through a large number of theories and case analysis,it reveals the means characteristics of the representation to achieve the essence,and summarizes five methodologies,which are geometric abstraction,black and white silhouette,perspective focusing,avoiding light to heavy,concentrated conformal.And discuss in detail the emotional logic behind them.Therefore,the author takes the "bamboo shoot" element as the specific object image to verify the thesis,and deepen the cognition of subtraction thinking through the process of combining theory with practice,so as to provide a unique perspective for the industry and promote the further development of graphic design.
