As the main representative of the oriental culture design style in Asia, Japan has always been the key object of learning for China's design industry. Both of the minimalist aesthetic style as "introverted, simple, bright and succinct" and decorative aesthetic style as "complicated, luxurious, colored and hybrid" are exist in Japanese graphic design. In this article, we summarized a case study for works of Kohei Sugiura and Ikko Tanaka. From the both sides of simple and complex, we interpreted the two expressions of addition and subtraction in Japanese graphic design respectively. Combining with the visual information dissemination model and analysis on origin and design language constitution, we clarify that addition and subtraction are the breakthrough way for understanding contemporary graphic design concepts in Japan, and "complicated, luxurious, colored and hybrid" is exactly the expression and presentation of the two opposites aesthetic emotions in Japanese graphic design...
