Mate choice copying is a social learning behavior in which individuals rely on the attitude information of same-sex role models to choose a partner when their potential partner lacks personal information. It is a non independent mate selection strategy. The study of mate choice copying began with the study of animals, while the study of human mate choice copying is still in the exploratory stage.Based on the research results of public information theory and social learning theory, this study explores the occurrence and disappearance mechanism of mate choice copying effect from the perspective of information resources. This study selected young women as the research subjects through three experiments, with male personal information(facial information, financial information, personality information)as the independent variable, and the mate choice copying effect as the dependent variable.Explore the impact of personal information type and quantity on the replication effect of mate selection. In Experiment 1 explores whether the mate choice copying effect occurs when only providing male personal information to female participants. The subjects were 33 heterosexuality young women aged 19-25.The results showed that participants adopted same-sex role model attitude information instead of personal information, resulting in a mate choice copying effect. In Experiment 2,on the basis of facial information in Experiment 1,male personality or financial information was also provided.Explore the impact of different types of personal information on mate choice copying effects, and whether the consistency of information valence has an impact on mate choice copying effects.According to the different personal information provided, the participants were divided into two groups: the financial group and the personality group. The subjects were 65 heterosexuality young women aged 19-25,including 34 in the financial group and 31 in the personality group. The results showed that 1)the financial group did not experience a mate choice copying effect, while the personality group experienced a mate choice copying effect. When women understand the financial information of men, individuals will not adopt the attitude information of same-sex role models, and the replication effect of mate selection disappears.2)Consistency and conflict in information valence can also have an impact on whether subjects experience mate choice copying effects.Research has found that there is a significant difference in the replication effect of mate selection between information valence consistency and information valence conflict in the personality group. In the financial group, there was no significant difference in information valence consistency and information conflict. In Experiment 3,based on Experiment 1 and Experiment 2,in addition to providing male facial information,it also provided male personality information. The number of personality words increased from 2 in Experiment 2 to 4,exploring the impact of an increase in the number of personality information on mate choice copying effect. The subjects were 50 heterosexuality young women aged 19-25 years old.The results showed that, compared with the data of the personality group(2individuals)in Experiment 2,Experiment 3(4 individuals)showed that the mate choice copying effect disappeared after increasing the amount of personality information. This indicates that as participants gain more understanding of male personality information, the influence of same-sex role model attitude information will decrease, indicating that the mate choice copying effect will disappear.2)Compared with the data from Experiment 1,it was found that there was a significant difference in the replication effect of personality information on mate selection. In order to further illustrate the impact of information resources on mate choice copying, participants filled out a mate choice copying survey questionnaire after the experiment. The questionnaire results indicate that whether personal information is important to women determines whether they will adopt same-sex role model attitude information.Individuals make mate choices by balancing personal information and same-sex role model attitude information.Based on the above three experimental results, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)Women’s individual mate selection is influenced by the attitude of same-sex role models when their male personal information is facial information, resulting in a mate choice copying effect.(2)When women’s personal information in men is financial and facial information, the replication effect in mate selection disappears, and individuals are no longer influenced by the attitude information of same-sex role models.Women,on the other hand, experience a mate choice copying effect when their male personal information includes personality and face information, and individuals are still influenced by the attitude information of same-sex role models. This indicates that the type of personal information can affect the mate choice copying effect, and women are more sensitive to male financial information than personality information, which is more likely to eliminate the mate choice copying effect for women.(3)There is a significant difference in the valence of personality information and same-sex role model attitude information, while there is no significant difference in the valence of financial information and same-sex role model attitude information. So the consistency of information valence will affect the mate choice copying effect.(4)For male personal information(personality information)that is not sensitive enough, increasing the amount of information will also cause the replication effect of mate selection to disappear, and women are not affected by the attitude information of same-sex role models. This study demonstrates that the essence of mate choice copying effect is to balance personal information and same-sex role model attitude information.Adopting same-sex role model attitude information will result in mate choice copying effect, while adopting personal information will not result in mate choice copying effect. Its essence is a sociological mate selection strategy. At the same time,it indicates that when women have enough or very important personal information about men, they will no longer be influenced by the attitude information of same-sex role models and have the ability to independently judge and choose a spouse. Finally, the results of this study also provide guidance for single women’s romantic relationships. When choosing potential partners,it is not only necessary to refer to the opinions of same-sex women, but also to fully understand the personal information of men.Only by combining the two types of information can we make accurate mate choices. At the same time,it also proposes love guidance for single men who have been repeatedly rejected by women. How to break the influence of mate selection duplication and eliminate their own weakness in mate selection only needs to display more personal information.Women not only like men with high incomes, but also prefer opposite sex individuals who are single minded, gentle, responsible, and filial.
