Interrogative pronouns are a common part of speech category in human language.Their polyfunctional semantic features have attracted the attention of many language researchers. This paper takes the "na" interrogative pronouns in Wuming dialect of Zhuang language and Kuiyang dialect of Goulou Cantonese as the research objects, and compares the "na" interrogative pronouns of in the two languages from three perspectives: word formation, interrogative semantics and syntactic function. It also makes a preliminary study on the non-interrogative usage of the interrogative pronouns in the two languages. The article aims to show the commonality and individuality of semantic, syntactic and pragmatic of the "na" interrogative pronouns in the two languages. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the main text consists of four chapters:Chapter 1: Defining the concept of interrogative pronouns, and analyzing the similarities and differences of the word formations, composition, and components of interrogative pronouns in Wuming dialect and Kuiyang dialect. The second chapter compares the interrogative pronoun systems of Wuming dialect and Kuiyang dialect, examines the number of interrogative morphemes required by each interrogative system and the number of question semantic categories that can be expressed by each interrogative morpheme, and finds out the status of the "na" interrogative pronoun in the interrogative pronoun system, and explores the semantic relationships of "na" interrogative pronouns. The third chapter analyzes the commonality and individuality of the syntactic function of the interrogative pronouns in Wuming dialect and Kuiyang dialect in particular referring question, that is,to examine the ability of the "na" series interrogative pronouns to act as subject, predication, object, attributive, adverbial and complement in a sentence. At the same time, this chapter also analyzes these interrogative pronouns’ combinatorial abilities in sentences, mainly with prepositions, structural auxiliaries, and mood words.Chapter 4,under the guidance of the Prototype Theory, studies the semantic categories of the “where” interrogative pronouns in Wuming dialect and Kuiyang dialect.Analyzing the semantics of interrogative pronouns, especially the noninterrogative semantics and the reasons for their formation, with the Construction Grammar Theory and the Subjectivization Theory, involving three planes: syntax, semantics and pragmatics. |
