| The source text for translation practice is excerpted from Animal Rights Without Liberty by Alasdair Cochrane.Animals have been widely used in human production and life for a long time, such as agriculture, experiments, entertainments, and animals have a close relationship with human beings.Since the concept of “animal rights” was first proposed in 1892,foreign scholars have been arguing about the topic of “animal rights” and “human obligations”.Therefore, the translation of social science texts related to animal rights can help domestic readers with higher spiritual needs understand the concept of animal rights and its social development background, and at the same time inspire readers to think about the relationship between human beings and animals or even the relationship between human beings and nature. As a social science text, the content of the source text is professional and precise, involving a wide range of disciplines;the language of the source text has plenty of terms and long compound sentences which are difficult to understand. In order to reproduce the source text and meet the cultural needs of readers, this report will explain how the reporter realizes the“adaptation and selection” in social science texts from the dimensions of language, culture and communication under the guidance of Hu Gengshen’s Eco-translatology.In the linguistic dimension, the reporter adapts to the source-text ecology to reproduce the writing style of the source text from vocabularies, sentence patterns and figures of speech;in the cultural dimension, translation methods such as amplification, free translation and annotation, are used to achieve the cultural transformation and adaptation of target language and source language, meeting the professional and cultural needs of readers;in the communicative dimension, reading barriers can be reduced through word order adjustment,active-passive voice conversion, free translation and amplification so as to convey the information of the source text effectively. This report shows that under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the linguistic, cultural, and communicative problems encountered in the translation of social science texts can be solved through corresponding translation methods, and achieve a balance between the source language and the target language.Meanwhile, this study is significant in that the reporter can grasp the linguistic features of social science texts better and solve the translation problems of social science texts while improving her own translation level,so as to provide comparison and reference texts for similar researches in domestic academic circles. |
