Jin Yucheng’s writing strives to “land in one’s own place”,to search and discover oneself in one’s own life experience. His works focus on the entanglement of nobody with the existing order and unearths the ethical dilemmas of individual lives. However, when facing inescapable dilemma, the author touches the concrete feeling of existence and listens to the murmur of broken life with a calm posture in the story and narration of the novels, and rubs shoulders with the ethical dilemma of individual life with an inclusive emotion, using “traditional” and “pioneering” formal discourse,he reaches the depth and breadth of individual life, thus completing the dissolution and transcendence of the heaviness and cruelty of reality,as well as the pursuit and search for the ultimate meaning of individual life. All of these make his works shine with the moving light of redeeming the heart and guiding the direction in a rich and complex ethical world. The thesis is divided into three parts: the introduction, the main part, and the conclusion. The introduction first introduces the background and origin of the topic, reviews the current status of Jin Yucheng’s works and researches, and presents the paths and turns of ethical criticism.Secondly,it compares the concepts of “narrative ethics”in China and the West. Finally, the ideas and innovations of the thesis are presented. The main part of the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter explores the ethical dilemmas of the individuals under the political and life ethics from the story level of the novel.Firstly, the author focuses on the individual’s survival dilemma under the hostage of national and ethnic destiny, which mainly involves the alienation of individual’s real life and the loss of emotional ethics.Secondly,in the face of the relatively diversified ethical situation of the times, the author also focuses on the unavoidable ethical paradox of individual’s life, such as the problem of individual’s modern marital aphasia and interpersonal hypocrisy after the orgy of desire. The second chapter explores the ethical significance of the act of narration itself from the narrative level of the novel.Firstly, the author uses rich rhetorical techniques to refer to the absurd reality of individual existence through imagery and allegory.Secondly, the author sets up a misty night-like atmosphere, otherworldly time and space, and conversational plot, intending to reproduce the disorder of historical reality and break the bondage of traditional ethical experience on individual life from the contrast of the times and the abstraction of the meaning of reality.Thirdly, the author uses the “storyteller” and “no words” to construct a calm narrative posture, which coalesces the value of individual existence in a distanced view of reality and the moral judgment through character’s dialogues. The third chapter explores Jin’s redemption and direction of individual ethical dilemmas. With the thickness and resilience of life,Jin casts ethical dilemmas into the internal world of the text and writes with a moving light that redeems the heart and guides the direction.Firstly, through the experience of growing up in the “ego” of his time,he dissolves the pain of life in the poetic nostalgia of daily life and the promise of ideal ethical relationships.Secondly,he completes the limited transcendence of individual existence through the pursuit of natural desires and the search for a spiritual home. Finally, the author confronts the proposition of “death” and sets up the lack of faith, thus pointing individual life to a kind of emptiness and seeking the possibility of life in emptiness. At the end of the thesis, the artistic characteristics and value significance of the narrative ethics of Jin Yucheng’s novels are concluded from the perspective of literary history, and the values and limitations of Jin’s novel creation are summarized.
