Jin Yucheng’s novels have distinct spatial narrative characteristics.Space expression and literary creation are organically combined by him, which benefits from his own growth experience and life interest. His literary creation is deeply influenced by paintings and movies, both of which belong to the category of visual art.Jin Yucheng liked to draw pictures in his childhood, and he also drew more than 80 illustrations for many of his works. He believes that the pictures in the book are exactly what the author cannot reach. Some art critics said that he excels in visual memory, with amazing details, which is rare even among professional painters. And Jin Yucheng said to himself that he is a generation who grew up watching movies. He has extensive and profound exposure to movies, and he often shows movie elements in his works and draws on movie art techniques. From the perspective of literary genesis, the life experience of Shanghai Metropolis—Northeast Farm—Shanghai Metropolis migration strengthened Jin Yucheng’s perception and comparison of space. The reflection of the objective world enables writers to form a stronger sense of space, and promotes the generation of text space narratives in novels. The urban and rural spatial systems constructed by Jin Yucheng’s novels show the unique perception of historical development and social changes of a generation who grew up in a special period. Therefore,Jin Yucheng’s novels have a typical spatial form.In terms of content, details and symbols are emphasized, and the text is full of rich spatial images;in terms of narration,it is different from traditional linear narratives, but weakens the continuity of narrative sequence, and uses space juxtaposition and space switching to promote narration, and the text’s spatial sense Naturally to be highlighted.Although the academic circles’ attention and research on Jin Yucheng’s novels have increased substantially in recent years, the existing papers have mostly analyzed from the perspectives of Shanghai city writing, folk narration,Shanghai language writing, and character images. At present, only one master’s thesis discusses the novel "Flowers" from the perspective of spatial narrative, but the thesis does not involve the coherence and inheritance of spatial narrative in the writer’s creation, and the contrast between texts. It also ignores the countryside and the city, which are equally important spaces and scenes for writers, and should not be ignored. This article mainly adopts spatial narrative theory, trying to criticize and practice important contemporary writers’ works,in order to generate new cognitive value for Jin Yucheng’s overall novel creation, and at the same time make meaningful progress on how the spatial narrative theory can be applied to specific text analysis. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this article is divided into three chapters. The introduction first gives a brief introduction to Jin Yucheng and his creations, and then discusses the origin of the research, the research status, and the research theory. The first chapter, starting from the macro level, aims to answer Jin Yucheng’s "what space did he write about?" and "why did he write these spaces".The Shanghai metropolis and northeastern countryside appearing in the novel correspond to childhood experiences and educated youth life experiences.Jin Yucheng is an important factor in space consciousness. The second chapter discusses the composition of Jin Yucheng’s novel space, including the presentation of three types of spaces, and further analyzes the narrative function of space,as well as the unique space narrative techniques of Jin Yucheng’s novels. The third chapter adopts the research path from coarse to fine, aiming to analyze the cultural metaphors of space image in Jin Yucheng’s novels.According to the text,it captures the space image of vast fields, the image of claustrophobic narrow space, the image of vertical home space, and the linear flow space. The four typical images of imagery are used to elucidate cultural metaphors and interpret them in a cultural sense.
