Cross cultural sensitivity belongs to the emotional level of cross-cultural communication ability,which is a key link connecting cross-cultural awareness and cross-cultural effectiveness,and is the most important component of cross-cultural communication ability.The research on cross-cultural sensitivity in China mainly focuses on the English teaching community,and there is relatively little empirical research on cross-cultural sensitivity of international students coming to China.This article will examine the cross-cultural sensitivity and influencing factors of international students in Jiangxi universities,hoping to provide some reference for the cultivation of their Chinese communication skills.This article adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,with Jiangxi international students as the research object,to explore their cross-cultural communication situation.The survey questionnaire used the "Cross cultural Sensitivity Scale" designed by Chen Guoming and Starosta,and added factors that may affect their cross-cultural sensitivity based on the research object and topic.The questionnaire data results show that the overall cross-cultural sensitivity of the110 international students surveyed in this survey is at a medium to high level.There is a significant positive correlation between the overall cross-cultural sensitivity and the five internal dimensions.Among the five dimensions,the average score of communication participation is the highest,and the average score of communication focus is the lowest.The significant factors that affect the cross-cultural sensitivity of international students coming to Jiangxi include nationality,major,number of foreign languages mastered,duration of Chinese language learning,whether they have participated in cross-cultural activities,whether they have Chinese friends,frequency of contact with Chinese friends,degree of adaptation to Jiangxi environment,and understanding of the economic and cultural development level of Jiangxi.Through interviews,it was further discovered that some international students from Jiangxi have encountered some problems in cross-cultural communication: insufficient understanding of cultural differences;Lack of confidence in actual communication;Lack of novelty in traditional cultural experience activities;High and low context and metaphorical Chinese influence communication focus;Interpersonal communication has limitations,narrow communication circles,and single communication objects.Based on quantitative and qualitative research results,this article finally proposes some suggestions for cultivating cross-cultural sensitivity among international students at three levels: schools,teachers,and international students.For schools,firstly,establish an effective online service platform.Secondly,adopt a management approach that combines assimilation and differentiation for international students.Thirdly,enrich cultural experience activities.Fourthly,provide language partner mutual assistance services.For teachers,firstly,create cross-cultural communication situations that are close to life.Secondly,cultivate the metaphorical ability of international students.Thirdly,understand the cultural learning needs of different students in advance.Fourthly,cultural teaching highlights the regional characteristics of Jiangxi.For international students,firstly,establish a correct awareness of cross-cultural communication.Secondly,make reasonable use of social media.Thirdly,break through the social circle and actively participate in various activities.
