Research On Yongji County Chronicle Of The Republic Of China

The Yongji County Chronicle is the earliest surviving local chronicle in Yongji County,Jilin Province.It began to be revised in the sixteenth year of the Republic of China(1927),but was interrupted due to lack of funds.Later,it resumed in the eighteenth year of the Republic of China(1929),and it was not completed until the twentieth year of the Republic of China(1931)that it was planned to be printed.However,due to the "September 18 th " incident,it was postponed and its publication was not published until 1941,which lasted 14 years.There are many people who revised this book,including Xu Nailin,former governor of Jilin Province,Zhang Hua,Jin Zhaofeng,Wang Shitong,editor of the Hanlin Academy of the Qing Dynasty,Huang Weihan,prefect of Suihua Prefecture in Heilongjiang,Cao Bingzhang,counselor of the Great Presidential Office,and Wang Chongmin,a famous modern philologist.The book consists of 50 volumes,divided into two parts,tables and records,with a total of 14 categories and more than 700,000 words.This paper is based on the 1988 punctuated and photocopied Yongji County Chronicle by the Institute of Ancient Books of Jilin Normal University,and conducts in-depth research on its historical value.The whole text is divided into seven chapters: The first chapter is an introduction,which expounds the origin of the selected topic,discusses the current status of research from three aspects: book records,paper citations,and research of compilers,and explains research methods.The second chapter explores the compilation background of the Yongji County Chronicle from three aspects: the history of Yongji County,the upsurge in the compilation of local chronicles in the Republic of China,and the responsibilities of local officials;The third chapter compares the Yongji County Chronicle with the General Annals of Jilin and Shenyang County Chronicle,and analyzes the stylistic characteristics of the Yongji County Chronicle.The fourth chapter overviews the content of the Yongji County Chronicle,summarizes its historical sources,and explores its methods of handling historical materials.The fifth chapter discusses the historical,geographical,political,economic,customary,educational,agricultural,industrial,commercial,transportation,military,celebrities and other historical materials preserved in the Yongji County Chronicle.The sixth chapter analyzes and summarizes the shortcomings of the Yongji County Chronicle and points out its errors.The seventh chapter comprehensively summarizes the value of the Yongji County Chronicle and the weak points of this study.Through research,the Yongji County Chronicle has comprehensive content and complete style in the local chronicles revised during the Republic of China,and has important academic value for the study of politics,economy,culture,ethnicity,folklore,property,transportation,and characters in Yongji County and even Jilin Province.The revision of the Yongji County Chronicle has played a demonstration and leading role in the compilation of other local chronicles.
