| The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition,2020revision)issued by the Ministry of Education points out that the core competence of a discipline is the concentrated embodiment of the value of educating in a subject,which means that students gradually form correct values,essential character and critical ability through subject learning.The core competence of the English subject includes linguistic competence,cultural awareness,thinking quality,and learning ability.The thinking quality refers to the ability and level of thinking reflected in logicality,criticality,and innovation.It is not only the thinking quality and the mental characteristic of the core competence of the subject but also one of the goals of senior high school English education.In recent years,there have been more studies on thinking quality and English reading teaching in senior high schools.However,fewer studies on thinking quality and writing teaching in senior high schools,and few studies comprehensively explore the relationship between several dimensions and the possible problems in cultivating thinking quality in writing teaching.Therefore,based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives and Constructivism Theory,the author combines it with teachers’ classroom activities and through the methods of the questionnaire survey,classroom observation,and interview to explore the cultivation of students’ thinking quality in English writing teaching in senior high schools.In this thesis,611 students and four English teachers in grade two of a senior high school in Haikou City were selected as research subjects.Firstly,the status quo of the cultivation of students’ thinking quality was investigated through a questionnaire survey.Secondly,classroom observation was conducted concerning teaching activities and the frequency of activities.Finally,teacher and student interviews were used to explore the existing problems and make suggestions.This paper focuses on the following three questions:(1)What are the ways of cultivating the thinking quality in English writing teaching in senior high school?(2)How effective is cultivating thinking quality in English writing teaching in senior high school?(3)What are the problems in the ways of cultivating thinking quality in English writing teaching in senior high school?The research shows that English teachers in senior high schools have various ways to cultivate students’ thinking quality,including questioning,mind mapping,peer evaluation,and others.In terms of cultivation methods,there are problems of incongruity and incompleteness.Teachers attach importance to cultivating logical thinking but neglect cultivating critical thinking and innovative thinking.At the present stage,the overall cultivating effect of senior high school students thinking quality is unsatisfactory,among which logical thinking is the best,followed by critical and innovative thinking.According to the research results,the author puts forward some suggestions on cultivating students’ thinking quality from three aspects: school,teachers,and students,in order to provide a reference for creating a more effective writing teaching classroom to cultivate students’ thinking quality. |
