As a unique image group,the images of scholars and businessmen in ancient Chinese novels developed and changed with the development of The Times.From the Ming Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty,they were very active in literary works,and the communication between scholars and businessmen became increasingly close.Wu Callus’ Twenty Years of Witnessing the Strange Situation is one of the "Four Great Condemnation" novels of the late Qing Dynasty.The book comprehensively shows the life scene of officialdom and shopping malls in the late Qing Dynasty.The wide range of description and the number of characters are the most extensive of the "four condemned novels of the late Qing Dynasty"."Officials,teachers,officials and businessmen,all recorded" "involving a wide range,far more than writers at the same time".Under the new background of the late Qing Dynasty,there are a large number of "scholars" and business images different from ordinary scholars and businessmen in the novels,which are more profound than the novels of the same period and deserve in-depth study.But at present for Twenty Years of Witnessing the Strange Situation of "shi" business image system research is less,therefore,this paper selects the novel "shi" business image as a research object,through in-depth analysis of the image,more systematically explore the "shi" in the present situation of the type,characteristics,the author’s creative motivation and its meaning,in order to enrich the situation of characters image research.The paper is mainly divided into three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The paper analyzes the background and significance of the topic selection,introduces the representative views in the study of the current situation of the characters,the study of the social changes in the late Qing Dynasty and the relationship between scholars and businessmen,and expounds the research ideas and methods of this paper.It defines the concept of "scholars" and briefly sorts out the evolution of the relationship between scholars and merchants.The text section is divided into five chapters:The first chapter classifies the image of "scholars" in "Strange Situation" according to the change of their identity,which is divided into three types: abandoning businessmen,donating official officials,and business and official,and analyzes the typical characters.The second chapter analyzes the image characteristics of "scholars" in Twenty Years of Witnessing the Strange Situation,and presents different characteristics in the appearance,action,thought and business means of these scholars and businessmen.Specifically,in the dress,speech and manners between the scholar style,but the inside is very humble;in the behavior of character,bullying,bullying.In thought,heavy interests over justice,against the traditional concept of justice and interests,the concept of scholars and business,break the concept of the concept of men and women,these deviate from the traditional Confucianism,both progress and backward;in the means of business,a variety of ways of profit.The third chapter mainly discusses the literary role of "scholars".The description of the characters with the satire pen plays a role in deepening the theme and expresses the author’s criticism of the social reality.The same characters are repeated in different plots to promote the story.Various images of "scholars" shang enrich the literary images in the novels of the late Qing Dynasty.The fourth chapter analyzes the causes of the characters of "shi" shang in the novel.Twenty Years of Witnessing the Strange Situation is called an autobiographical work,so the image of scholars and businessmen is naturally inseparable from the life experience and heart changes of Wu people.In addition,there is the joint effect of the imperial examination system,commercial ideas and traditional fame ideas during the period of great social changes.The fifth chapter discusses the significance of the image of "scholar" shang in the novel.From the social significance,ideological significance,the significance of The Times three parts to explain.The conclusion is a summary of the text.Through the systematic analysis of the image of "scholars" in Twenty Years of Witnessing the Strange Situation,we can see the personal experience and painful journey of Wu people as the old and new era,as well as the social reality of moral decline in the late Qing Dynasty.The social changes in this period led to frequent interaction between scholars and businessmen,and showed different characteristics from their predecessors in appearance,behavior,thought and business means.The modernity reflected in them is of great significance to literary creation and social thought.
