This article takes Chaoxian People Chinese and overseas Chinese who immigrate to South Korea as the research object,conducts a multi-dimensional survey of their Chinese language use and learning,as well as their social and living conditions in South Korea,analyzes their ethnic identity and possible influencing factors,and then puts forward some targeted suggestions for the maintenance of their language and culture.As a member of China’s numerous ethnic groups,the Chaoxian People group has not only harmoniously integrated into China’s multi-ethnic and social life,but also better maintained its unique ethnic language and culture.Nowadays,with the continuous development of economic globalization,the cross-border flow of population is becoming increasingly frequent.The Korean immigrant population is not a minority,and South Korea is one of the main destination countries for Korean immigrants.According to statistics,the proportion of Chaoxian People immigrants in South Korea is far higher than that of other ethnic groups,making them a group that cannot be ignored.On the one hand,the Chaoxin People in South Korea has had a profound impact on the economy,society,and even cultural life of South Korea;On the other hand,the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds have also had an impact on the ethnic language and culture of the Chaoxian People in South Korea.In this context,it is undoubtedly of great significance to conduct an investigation and analysis of the linguistic life and ethnic identity of this group,thereby providing a way for the preservation of its ethnic language and culture,and promoting the harmonious development of multiculturalism.Based on this,this article first examines the historical origin and ethnic characteristics of the Chaoxian People group in South Korea.On this basis,a questionnaire survey and indepth interviews were conducted with 119 Chaoxian People aged between 10 and 50 in South Korea to understand their language use,learning,and identity.The results show that young Korean people are often exposed to Korean language environments,and their Chinese proficiency and usage are not ideal;Most adult Chaoxian People groups are often exposed to the Chinese language environment,and their Chinese language proficiency is higher than that of teenagers.In addition,we also found that adult Chaoxian People groups tend to recognize themselves as Chinese,while teenagers are more likely to recognize themselves as Korean.However,overall,there are still confusion about their identity among Chaoxian People groups.We believe that strengthening the study of Chinese language and culture is an effective way to solve the above problems.Therefore,on the basis of relevant investigations and studies,this article proposes four suggestions for Chinese language learning in Korean and Chaoxian People groups,including creating a family language environment,giving full play to the positive role of communities and Chinatowns,improving Chinese language teaching in schools,and giving full play to the positive role of Confucius Institutes.
