A Study On The Mysterious Way In Xuanzhul

As a scripture in the Tai Xuan section of Taoist Canon,the Record of the Mysterious Pear1(Xuanzhu Lu,玄珠录)fully responds to the question of how the faith of "Realizing Dao" is possible in Daoist Twofold Mystery since the Sui and Tang dynasties,with its interpretation of Wang Xuanlan’s(626-697)"speak in tetra-lemma,reflect on eka-yana".In this regard,as the name "Mysterious Pearl" implies,its theory and practice of metaphysics are based on the mind of "clear and circular flow".Admittedly,previous studies on the Twofold Mystery of this scripture have been quite complete,not only showing its method of "Absolute Negating",but also showing its themes of "Dao,Mind and Cultivation".However,due to the mirror position of Buddhist Madhyamaka and the methodological attitude of psychologicalism,essentialism,and substantialism,this interpretation has never been able to reveal the Dao of Twofold Mystery,which combines both metaphysical and religious aspects.Thus,this paper attempts to suspend the above unexamined research prejudices,and open up a method and theme of Daoist Twofold Mystery,with the interpretive attitude that returns to the Dao of Twofol d Mystery in Record of the Mysterious Pearl.The specific work achievements are as follows:First,Chapter One presents the connection of thought between Record of the Mysterious Pearl and other Daoist scriptures in the horizon of Twofold Mystery,and points out that the method and theme of Twofold Mystery are both based on the essential correlation between "Transcendental Dao-Experimental Dao" and"Intentional Act-Intentional Object".Second,Chapter Two clarifies the method "Correlative Thinking",which is composed of the correlation of "Middle Way",the speech "Tetra-lemma" and the operation of "Preservation and Observation",then points out that the Dao of Twofold Mystery is not an attitude of "absolute negation",but a non-objectified and non-attached attitude that is both a priori and a posteriori.Finally,the themes about "Dao,Mind and Cultivation":Chapter Three points out that the "Existence or Essence of Dao" is authentic emptiness,which manifests itself in the parallel sameness of "Dao-All things" and "Dao-Living beings";and,Chapter Four points out that the "Essence of Mind or Dao" is also authentic emptiness,which manifests itself in the "Sameness" of the relation between "Conscious Mind-Conscious Dharma"and "Empirical Knowledge-Pure Knowledge";then Chapter Five points out that the way to "Realizing Dao of Twofold Mystery" is to emptiness and liberated,that is,to understand the "Parallel Sameness" of "Dao’s revelation-Things Affliction" and "Divine Wisdom-Mortal Ignorance".In short,by making the Dao of Twofold Mystery in Record of the Mysterious Pearl itself explain the "Parallel Sameness" and "Authentic Emptiness",the interrelated"Method-Theme" of Twofold Mystery has already opened up a possibility for a philosophical hermeneutics of Daoist,which is based on the principle of "Ziran".
