Wandering is the innate destiny of human beings, and writers have always been keen to write about it.From Homer’s Epic to Kafka’s The Castle, from Kua Fu in the Shan Hai Jing to Lu Xun’s "Passersby",from behavior wandering to spiritual exploration, wandering in the works of Chinese and foreign writers reflects the living state and fate of human beings in a particular era.Yu Hua is an important writer in contemporary Chinese literature.Since the 1980 s,he has written short and medium-length novels such as the Eighteen-year-old excursion,Noon in the Howling Northwest Wind,A Kind of Reality,as well as full-length novels such as Shouting in the Drizzle,Alive,A Story of Xu San-guan Selling Blood,Brothers,The Seventh Day and Wen cheng, which have exerted a wide influence. It is noteworthy that Yu Hua’s novels frequently refer to the wanderings of his characters, from "going out on a long journey" in the 1980 s to "searching for Wen cheng" in the 21 st century, his characters always walk on the road, which not only reflects Yu Hua’s concern for the fate of mankind and his inquiry into self-existence,but also reflects his search for a spiritual home where floating souls are placed. This paper attempts to focus on Yu Hua’s wandering writing in his novels, analyze the wandering forms depicted in his writing, explore the theme connotation and narrative strategy of his wandering writing, reflect and reveal the uniqueness and value significance of Yu Hua’s wandering writing. In Yu Hua’s novels, wandering has various forms, including survival wandering who work away from home to make a living or flee to avoid disaster, runaway wandering who seek for self or escape from the current living environment, and roaming wandering that are in a state of wandering in both real life and the spiritual world.Once Yu Hua’s characters start wandering, they don’t stop easily."Always on the road" is their fate, and death means the end of wandering.Yu Hua’s wandering writing have rich thematic connotations, one is to express the rebellion and reconstruction of the traditional family ethical order through the runaway of the characters in the pen.Yu Hua’s ultimate aim in describing these wanderers is to build a new ethical order and find the ideal "home" for human beings;the second is to show the thinking and exploration of self-identity and existence value through the wandering behavior of the characters; The third is to find a spiritual utopia through the wandering of the characters that can place the restless soul. From the Eighteen-year-old excursion to Wen cheng,Yu Hua has never stopped writing about wandering. He always paid attention to the plight of human existence, expressed the rebellion and reconstruction of traditional family ethics, the exploration and thinking of self-existence,and also made unremitting efforts to explore the spiritual home of wanderers. The wandering writing of Yu Hua’s novels has its own unique narrative strategy, which is mainly reflected in the construction of narrative time and space and the choice of narrative perspective. He constructs "road space-time body","memory space-time body" and "harlequin space-time body" through media such as roads and memories, realizing the random switching of different time and space, revealing the uncertainty of wandering, and also showing diversified wandering forms through narrative perspectives such as non-adult perspective,non-human perspective, and undead perspective. The wandering writing of Yu Hua’s novels has certain uniqueness.First of all,Yu Hua’s wandering has a strong sense of absurdity, whether it is the cause and end of his characters’ wanderings,or the encounter of the wandering process,it has absurd colors.Secondly,Yu Hua’s wandering writing is also related to his unique life experience to a certain extent,as he incorporates his own personal or perceived experiences of wandering into his novels, and his wandering writing brings people real feelings. In addition, the works of Chinese and foreign writers such as Lu Xun and Kafka have also inspired Yu Hua’s wandering writings,Like their works, the wandering writings of Yu Hua’s novels also contain serious reflections on reality and exploration of the human spirit.
