| Among the many Indian English novelists,Kiran Desai is a rising star in the literary world that can’t be ignored. In 2006,Kiran Desai won the 40 th Booker Prize for her book The Inheritance of Loss, becoming the youngest woman writer to win the prize so far.The review finds that most previous studies of Kiran Desai have used some sort of theory to analyse Desai’s work, but few have examined the writer as a whole. The author believes that if we want to understand a writer’s writing behaviour and her thoughts and feelings,we need to analyse the writer and her works from a holistic perspective. Therefore, the author finally chooses Kiran Desai as the object of study.Using the methods of documentation, historical research and comparative research, the author analyses, organizes and summarizes existing data, uses Desai’s two existing works and relevant interviews as the basic research texts, and analyses her writing behaviour and thoughts and feelings in the context of the globalized era in which Desai lived. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first introductory chapter presents the background of this thesis,an introduction to the writer’s works,an overview of the research, the purpose and significance of the study and the research methodology and structure. The second chapter focuses on India in the writing of Kiran Desai.Through the textual study,a more detailed analysis of the writing style and thoughts and feelings embodied in Desai’s works is presented in three parts: Indian civilization,Indian society and the image of India in Desai’s writing. The third chapter of the thesis interprets the writer’s writing from the perspective of creative resources, analyzing Desai’s Eastern and Western creative resources respectively, and interpreting Desai’s literary influence and status as comprehensively as possible. The fourth chapter intends to explore contemporary Indian and Indian English literature and diaspora identity writing in the light of globalization, and to propose potential themes of international writing, thereby analyzing the impact of the globalization era on Desai’s writing behaviour and thoughts and feelings. The fifth chapter is the concluding part of the thesis. The author tries to start from the perspective of Desai’s writing behaviour and ideology, combining with the textual analysis of her works,to make a more comprehensive analysis of India from the perspective of Desai’s globalized writing, and therefore better understand the ideological themes and emotional attitudes of Desai’s creation. The author attempts to provide more detailed documentation for later scholars of Kiran Desai so that more scholars can discover the ideological value and significance of this contemporary Indian woman writer. |
