According to the characteristics of adolescent physical and mental development and the ecological systems theory, the importance and influence of peers on adolescent socialization process are gradually increasing. Therefore,a negative peer social interaction environment may lead to adolescents perceiving peer interpersonal stress.Previous research has shown that interpersonal stress is an important external risk factor influencing adolescent depression development. Thus, the impact of peer interpersonal stress on adolescent depression cannot be underestimated. However, there is currently a relative lack of research in China on the relationship between peer interpersonal stress and adolescent depression. Therefore, further research on the impact of peer interpersonal stress on adolescent depression has certain theoretical significance and practical value. The negative experiences resulting from peer interpersonal stress can enhance an individual’s rumination and co-rumination tendency.Co-rumination is based on the concept of rumination,in which both refer to the process of repeatedly thinking about the details of negative events. However, the difference is that rumination occurs in the individual’s own thought process, while co-rumination occurs in two-way interpersonal interaction.Previous studies have separately explored the effects of co-rumination or rumination on depression, but have overlooked the potential relationship between co-rumination and rumination. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the joint mechanism of co-rumination and rumination in the relationship between peer interpersonal stress and depression, integrating and innovating previous research, and providing a new perspective for future relevant studies. There is a certain degree of correlation between friendship quality and co-rumination,and both play a role when individuals face negative stress events. This suggests that friendship quality may moderate the relationship between co-rumination,peer interpersonal stress, and adolescent depression. The students of grade seven and grade eight in a middle school in Wuhan were investigated by offline questionnaire. Finally,a total of 987 valid questionnaires were collected to explores the moderated chain mediation model of rumination,co-rumination and friendship quality in the relationship between peer interpersonal stress and depression,The present study verified the Stress Generation Model, the Vulnerability-Stress Model, and the Buffer Effect Model of Social Support Regulating Mental Health, and draws the following conclusions :(1)There are gender differences in peer interpersonal pressure, rumination, depression and friendship quality; There are significant grade differences in peer pressure and rumination;there are significant differences in rumination and depression between only children and non-only children.(2)Peer interpersonal pressure can not only directly predict depression, but also positively predict depression through the mediating effect of rumination, and negatively predict depression through he mediating effect of co-rumination.(3)Peer interpersonal stress can affect depression through the chain mediating effect of co-rumination to rumination, and positively predict depression.(4)Friendship quality regulates the path of co-rumination to depression.
