Due to the rapid development of the times, painting has undergone changes, and many works that are technologically advanced and trendy have emerged in the art world to meet contemporary aesthetic demands, which has greatly impacted traditional painting. As a famous contemporary artist from Sweden,Mamma Andersson combines the traditionality and contemporaneity of painting in her works.Through the narrative strategy of "re-contextualization," she breaks and reconstructs space, thus constructing a "heterogeneous space" between "reality" and "virtuality." The "virtual" part of this space is different from that in many other artists’ works in that they all have specific places in real life. The "heterogeneous space" in her work combines reality and virtuality, and such spaces do not have specific locations in real life. This is also the special feature of the "heterogeneous space" in her painting.A comprehensive analysis of Mamma Andersson’s paintings is helpful for better exploring the representation of "heterogeneous space" in her painting and deepening the understanding of the intrinsic meaning in her artwork. This article takes "heterogeneous space" as the starting point and uses Western philosophy as the theoretical basis. It employs methods such as literature research, image research, and comparative study to explore the characteristic expressions of "heterogeneous space" in Mamma Andersson’s works. The main parts are divided into four sections: first, sorting out the philosophical concept of "heterogeneous space" and analyzing its application and manifestation in literature, film, and painting;second, tracing the origin of "heterogeneous space" in Mamma Andersson’s painting, analyzing the influence of Biedermeier style,Dick Bengtsson, childhood cognition and mother identity, and Nordic mythology on the formation of "heterogeneous space" in her paintings;third, exploring the "heterogeneous space" in Mamma Andersson’s painting from the aspects of color, brushstroke, spatial layout,image-text use,and narrative strategy;finally, explaining the inspiration gained by the author in studying the "heterogeneous space" in Mamma Andersson’s painting, thus promoting the author’s bold selection of themes and the expression of personal artistic ideas.
