Climate change and extreme weather events are one of the focuses of the globe.Nowadays, the events are becoming more and more severe, not only causing a variety of environmental problems, but bringing about serious impacts and losses to human production and living as well as social and economic development. Thus, strengthening the discussion of climate change and extreme weather events is conducive to national disaster prevention and mitigation and climate change response. The book Climate Change and Extreme Events systematically analyzes the concepts of climate change and extreme weather events, the causes and evolution of change,as well as the measures and mechanisms to mitigate, adapt and manage climate change and extreme weather events. The source text of the translation project comes from the Chapters I,II,III and IV of the book, which introduces the relationship between climate change and extreme weather events, the process of climate warming, the relationship between climate change and river temperature, the causes of severe convective storms and the changing trend in the future respectively. The contents of the four chapters have significant references for mitigating and responding to climate change and extreme weather events in China. The translation practice is guided by the theory of eco-translatology.By summarizing the characteristics of specialized vocabulary, frequent passive voice as well as cohesive and coherent discourse in the process of translating the source text into Chinese, the author makes a detailed analysis for the text from the three dimensions of language, culture and communication. To be specific, linguistic dimension can be achieved by such translation ways as faithful translation of specialized vocabulary, shift of word, flexible translation of passive voice to coordinate relations and achieve balance and harmony between languages. From cultural dimension, literal translation can be used to preserve the source language culture, while Chinese four-character phrases can be applied to highlight the target language culture, and then deliver cultural meaning of languages. As regard to communicative dimension, zero translation and free translation can are applied to solve non-verbal symbol redundancy and highlight communicative function respectively. The omission method is used to remove redundant information to make the translation more smooth and understandable. The addition method is used to add missing information to manifest the logic relations and attain cohesion and coherence of the text. The theory of eco-translatology plays an important role in guiding the author to explore the translation methods of meteorological text and complete the translation practice report.Based on the global evolution trend of climate change, through translating relevant texts, the author can obtain more information about climate change and extreme events, and Chinese readers can see the efforts made by other countries in dealing with climate change and extreme events,so as to provide better solutions for China’s climate change and weather disasters, improve the environment and restore the economic development in China. It also provides reliable learning materials for scholars who like climate research.
