| American Popular Music: From Minstrelsy to MP3 is a chronological work on the history of music.This report is an English-Chinese report of Chapter 15 in American Popular Music: From Minstrelsy to MP3,which depicts the history of the development of popular music in the United States from the 21 st century.This report focuses on analyzing the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process as well as the methods applied.The translation difficulties are mainly focused on three aspects: in the linguistic dimension,it is mainly the translation of sentences withparenthesis,commentary words and inanimate subjects;in the cultural dimension,it is mostly the translation of culture-loaded expressions and terms with musical knowledge;in the communicative dimension,it is basically the translation of conversations and lyrics.Based on this,the translator chooses the appropriate translation methods to solve the translation difficulties.In the linguistic dimension,methods of four-character phrases and conversion of inanimate subjects and animate subjectsare used;in the cultural dimension,domestication of culture-loaded expressions and explicitation of musical knowledge are adopted,and in the communicative dimension,contextualization and addition of emotional values are employed.Using the above methods,the translator reproduced the source text as faithfully as possible.Finally,this report summarizes the translation report.The translator should first read a lot of background knowledge about the relevant field,analyze the content of the text in depth,be familiar with the writing style and grasp the internal logic,so as to choose the appropriate translation strategies and methods,and thus make the translation better understood and accepted by the readers. |
