At the juncture of junior high school, teenagers are in a crucial stage of growth. It is an unavoidable requirement for social advancement to augment students’ contentment and mental health.Due to the characteristics of half childish and half mature psychological development,as well as the academic pressure and interpersonal relationships faced at this stage, junior high school students are prone to psychological problems. As a comprehensive psychological indicator, subjective well-being is affected by many factors. As one of the most important environments in the life of middle school students, the family will have a huge impact on the psychological development of young people. Therefore, this paper takes subjective well-being as the research entry point to investigate the impact of junior high school students’ perception of parental conflict on their subjective well-being,and the chain intermediary role played by their understanding of social support and self-esteem level, and thus put forward targeted educational suggestions, which is of great significance to enrich the relevant theories of junior high school students’ subjective well-being and the development of secondary school mental health education curriculum. In this study,685 junior high school students from a city-level middle school and a town middle school in the south of Yuncheng City were tested by self-reporting,using the Parent Conflict Characteristics Scale, the Perceived Social Support Scale, the Self-esteem Scale and the Happiness Index Scale. The results showed that:(1)Junior high school students’ perception of parental conflict, subjective well-being,perceived social support,self-esteem and other dimensions are correlated in two ways.Junior high school students’ perception of parental conflict and other dimensions can negatively predict their subjective well-being,and perceived social support and self-esteem can positively predict their subjective well-being;(2)Comprehension of social support can play a partial intermediary role between junior high school students’ perception of parental conflict and subjective well-being,and self-esteem can play a partial intermediary role between junior high school students’ perception of parental conflict and subjective well-being;(3)Perceived social support and self-esteem play a significant role in the chain mediation between perceived parental conflict and subjective well-being of junior high school students.Based on this, the following conclusions are drawn from this study:The perception of parental conflict among junior high school students not only directly reduces their subjective well-being level, which is not conducive to their mental health development, but also affects their understanding of social support and self-esteem level, thereby affecting their subjective well-being.The research results help to reveal the impact mechanism of subjective well-being of middle school students, and have certain implications for promoting the development of their mental health.
