With the development of AI technology,people’s passions for self-driving cars never fade.In the future,AI-based self-driving cars will profoundly change human life beyond doubt.Therefore,it is especially valuable to understand the development and functions of self-driving cars.The source text of this report consists of four articles about self-driving cars written by Lance Eliot,a contributor to Forbes.com.As popular science texts,they are rigorous,but also humorous.These articles popularize the knowledge of self-driving cars and separately discuss the possible new functions of them and how these new functions will affect people’s lifestyles.Based on functional equivalence theory,this report illustrates the application of the translation methods like conversion,omission,amplification,combination,division,readjustment of word order to solve translation problems.Finally,the report reviews and reflects on the translation task and summarizes the translator’s thoughts and experiences about it.The translator hopes that this report can help some friends who are interested in self-driving cars know the latest related information,and provide translators engaged in the texts of popular science in the future with the aid of the translation.
