Bordering Huaibei in the north and the Yangtze River in the south,Yuzhou was one of the the important border towns and the transportation center from north to south in the Southern Dynasties. In the Late Eastern Jin,the Yu,Xie,and Huan families who had successively ruled Yuzhou withdrew from Yuzhou. After the Qin Zhao Rebellion, the Late migrating northerners who had just moved to Yuzhou gradually became the leading nobles in Yuzhou.During the period of Liu Song and Yuan Jia,the bordering nobles active in the Yuzhou region mainly came from Henan and Guanzhong regions.Because they moved to the south from different regions and in different times, the internal relations of the nobles in Yuzhou were alienated in the early Song Dynasty, and no so-called regional groups were formed. However, the internal alienation the nobles of Yuzhou happened to be an important reason for its being entrusted with heavy responsibility. In the thirtieth year of Yuanjia’s reign(453),the rebellion between the prime movers broke out,and the main conflicts within the Liu Song regime changed from preventing foreign aggression to preventing internal worries. The alienation of the Haozu in Yuzhou made it difficult to form an unified political force within them, and to achieve anything significant in the event.During the Xiaowu dynasty, they were abandoned from the politics of the Liu and Song dynasties. In the eighth year of the Ming Dynasty(464),Emperor Xiaowu died of illness.Liu Xiuyou left the town of Yuzhou, and the nobles of Yuzhou were once again absorbed into the military government of Yuzhou. As Liu Xiuyou, the governor of Yuzhou, and Sima Zhang Mu left Yuzhou successively, the external forces of the Yuzhou military government were greatly weakened, making the nobles in Yuzhou become the dominant force in the Yuzhou region after the outbreak of the Yijia Rebellion. The nobles of Yuzhou joined the Yi jia regime out of their own interests, and they failed to further expand during the Yi jia Rebellion.Due to the greater emphasis on protecting local interests the nobles of Yuzhou, the nobles of Yuzhou, who had a sense of camaraderie, faced numerous conflicts during the Yi jia Rebellion. The self-protection consciousness of the nobles of Yuzhou was closely related to the fragility of the local management structure of the imperial court.During the Yi jia Rebellion, the formulation of court policies was subject to the influence of local forces and external environment. There were some changes to the policies in the implementation according to the personal will of these court officials, which made it hard for the power of the imperial court to penetrate into the local areas. Therefore, the relationship with the imperial court was only one of the reasons that affected the development the nobles of Yuzhou. The relationship between local prestige, tribal forces, and northern clans also played a crucial role in the development of the nobles. |
