This study uses a combination of documentary folklore and field folklore records to explore the ways in which ancestral halls and ancestral hall culture have changed in the context of old village renewal, the process of change, and their effects. On the surface, this study explores how the material carrier(ancestral hall)and cultural connotation of folk culture have changed in the context of urban renewal, but in fact,it discusses the relationship between contemporary social changes and traditional culture, and tries to explore where people will go in the process of urbanization. The study finds that the content and form of the cultural change of ancestral halls and shrines are jointly constructed by the internal and external groups in their folklore activities and daily life, and the "ancestral shade" is changed from a traditional kinship relationship to a symbol of local cultural with modern characteristics through the efforts of the internal and external groups. The recreated social order still influences all aspects of the internal and external groups through traditional culture.First of all,the state discourse leads the transformation of ancestral halls and lays the material foundation for their adaptation to modernization through the regulatory policy of "keeping as much as possible" and the narrative propaganda of reviving traditions,so that traditional folklore gains "legitimacy" and space for activities. The local community uses social platforms and acquaintances to let the in-group understand that renovation is the way to adapt to the times, and uses the ancestral halls and ancestral hall culture as a link between the in-group and local memory, preserving the power of the masses for traditional revival. The real-estate developer follows the premise of the old renovation policy and makes use of local historical tropes to turn the ancestral hall into a commercial space that is both traditional and modern, elevating the folklore activities related to the ancestral hall from the daily life of the in-group to a local activity with a public character and recreating it as an abstracted symbol of the local historical lineage.Secondly, the subjects of daily life under the ancestral hall also recreate the culture of the ancestral hall in the interaction between the inner and outer groups, and the traditional culture allows people in the process of urbanization to find their own belonging and adapt to the development of the times. The significance of the ancestral hall in the transformation of the old village is different for the inner and outer groups,as the ancestral hall evolves from a ritual space for the inner group to a space for the daily life of more outsiders, who come to live around the ancestral hall also use the culture of the ancestral hall as a sign for external communication, attracting a wider range of people. In the interaction between the daily life of the inner and outer groups, the ancestral hall shows a new face, and the ancestral hall,at the intersection of the countryside and the city, again acts as a cultural link to influence people in the process of urbanization.Once again, the native people experience the dis-embedding and re-embedding of leaving and then returning,by strengthening the folk culture and folk activities belonging to the native people, using commercialization and social media to incorporate the outside groups into the life under the shrine, strengthening their own identity and accepting and absorbing the outside groups. In the end,the inner and outer groups jointly recreate the social order and urban memory belonging to the current context, and thus adapt to the process of urbanization.
