In the process of transitioning from a sports power to a sports powerhouse in our country,it is particularly important to cultivate new era international,high-level compound sports professionals.Currently,research on effective English teaching in China mainly focuses on primary,higher vocational colleges and undergrate universities,the research on effective English teaching for graduate students in universities is still in its infancy.Therefore,this study investigates the current status of English teaching for master’s degree students in sports majors at universities,analyzes the effectiveness of their teaching,and uses quantitative analysis methods to analyze students’ basic information and related teacher teaching situations.Based on effective teaching theories,corresponding improvement measures are proposed to improve the effectiveness of English teaching.This study uses literature analysis to search and analyze “effective teaching research” at home and abroad and define related core concepts.Based on school levels,Beijing Sport University,Tianjin University of Sport,Shenyang Sport University,and Xi’ an University of Sport were selected as research institutions,with a total of 400 master’s degree students in sports majors surveyed through questionnaires to understand their existing English foundation,learning motivation,and teacher teaching status.Besides,8 English teachers and 16 students from four schools were interviewed to gain a more comprehensive and objective understanding of the current effective English teaching situation from the perspectives of teachers and students.The investigation found that the English level of master’s degree students in sports majors is relatively low,with most of students have not obtained any English grade certificates,so their foundation is weak.What’s worse,their learning motivation is also seriously insufficient,the reason of they choose to learn English mainly due to school requirements or for obtaining CET-4/CET-6 certificates.In addition,there are problems in the current English teaching,including curriculum classification mode,teaching objectives setting,teachers’ teaching concepts,teaching continuity,teaching content,teaching methods and teaching evaluation.Based on the findings of this study,improving the effectiveness of English teaching for master’s degree students in sports majors needs effort from both students and teachers: On the one hand,students should clarify their personal career plans,stimulate their interest in learning English,and build effective English learning strategies.On the other hand,teachers should update their teaching concepts,formulate reasonable teaching objectives,improve the course division mode,strive to teach students according to their aptitude,extend the effect of classroom teaching,add teaching content,scientifically select teaching materials,innovate effective teaching methods,develop multidimensional teaching evaluation methods and value the role of teaching feedback.In short,students and teachers should work together to comprehensively improve the effectiveness of English teaching. |
