With the rise of short videos and livestreams,the development of the new county economy has ushered in a new era in recent years,which allows many contents to showcase good views and quality products from the county,thus driving the flow of related goods.And currently,the development of the county economy has taken advantage of short videos and livestream to seek a path of transformation and exploration.As a professional research report jointly released by The National Academy of Development and Strategy of Renmin University of China and Douyin,the Research Report on Short Videos and Livestreams Aid in New County Economic Development focuses on the general situation of the development of county economy and selects typical cases to analyze the main features and development trends of the new county economy.The translation practice selects the first three parts of the report as translation materials,and Catford’s translation shifts theory serves as the theoretical guidance for this translation practice.This translation practice report is an introduction,analysis,and summary of the task,which comprises five chapters: task description,process description,theoretical framework,case analysis,and conclusion.The first and second chapters are the introduction of the background and characters of the text,and briefly illustrate the preparation,process,and translation review stages.Then,the third chapter begins with a summary of the history of studies on translation shifts theory at home and abroad,and expounds on Catford’s translation shifts theory.Catford’s theory comprises level shifts and category shifts,with category shifts being divided into structure shifts,class shifts,unit shifts,and intra-system shifts.The theory mainly analyzes and studies the text from the aspects of grammar,vocabulary,and sentences.After that,the fourth chapter is case analysis under the guidance of Catford’s translation shift theory.Level shifts mainly analyze the text from the shifts of plural,tense,and aspect,while category shifts mainly analyze from structure shifts,class shifts,and unit shifts.Among them,structure shifts begin with the shifts of active voice and passive voice,shifts of affirmative sentences and negative sentences,and shifts of subject-prominence and topic-prominence.Class shifts analyze the text from the shifts of adjectives and nouns,shifts of verbs and nouns,and shifts of verbs and prepositions.Unit shifts are to analyze the cases from the shifts of words and phrases,and shifts of sentences and sentence groups.Apart from the level shifts and category shifts,the author also adds culture shifts as a supplement to Catford’s translation shifts theory.The focus of culture shifts is on the reconstruction and conversion of cultural information,which analyze how to use effective methods and techniques to transform cultural differences between two different languages in the process of C-E translation,and accurately convey the messages of the source language to the audiences of the target language.Finally,the fifth chapter is the conclusion of the translation practice.With this translation practice,the author hopes to provide a new perspective on the translation of texts related to the county economic development under the new media for other translators to reference.
