Since the beginning of the new century,Shanghai writers have emerged with vigorous creative power and enthusiastic creative passion, writing a considerable number of novel works, including veteran writers such as Wang Anyi,Jin Yucheng,Xia Shang,Teng Xiaolan who have entered the literary world since the new era and persisted in creating,as well as new generation writers such as Zhou Jianing,Zhang Yiwei,Qian Jianan, and Xiao Bai who started writing after the turn of the century. They are connected and continuously passed down from generation to generation Actively innovating Shanghai’s literary and cultural traditions, and continuously contributing to making Shanghai literature an indispensable part of contemporary Chinese literature.Although these writers grew up over different periods of time, came from different families or social classes, and had vastly different life experiences, they were also influenced by factors such as the advanced level of Shanghai city, social consumption culture, and the shrewd psychology of citizens. In their creations, they unconsciously and collaboratively put great enthusiasm into writing body metaphorical words,Make the body metaphors in Shanghai novels in the new century present textual aesthetic characteristics that are different from other regional writer groups. This article selects novels depicting Shanghai since the new century as the research object, based on the unique urban charm of Shanghai, with the intention of conducting in-depth analysis from the perspective of body metaphor.Through in-depth exploration of the context in which body metaphor is generated, the characteristics of the body as an entity, and the direct metaphor of multi-dimensional metaphors,we aim to explore the creative spirit of the author behind it,Realize the overall care for the creation of new century Shanghai novels, and on this basis, condense the significance and value contained in the body metaphor writing of new century Shanghai novels, while examining its special significance for the future creative growth of new century Shanghai writers. In addition to the introduction, the main part of the text is divided into five chapters:The first chapter focuses on analyzing the frequent occurrence and large-scale generative context of body metaphors in the creation of Shanghai novels in the new century, specifically from two aspects: cultural context and literary context. After the opening up and development of Pudong in the 1990s,Shanghai quickly regained vitality and created an open and narcissistic cultural atmosphere. At the same time, throughout the novels of Shanghai in the new century, there is basically a feminine and feminine temperament, and the text expression is often tactful and implicit. In this environment, writers have full consciousness to project their eyes onto the body, pay attention to themselves, and convey emotions and ideas through the full display of the body.Chapter 2 focuses on the body as a metaphorical entity, analyzing the inherent gender and identity attributes of the body.Analyzing the metaphorical ontology and establishing a connection between the ontology and the vehicle is the main part of the paper. As the ontology of body metaphor, the basic attributes of the body itself are worth paying attention to.As a human being, the most intuitive attribute is gender. The human community is divided into two parts by gender and converged into a whole by gender, giving the body the right to replace the entire Shanghai community. At the same time, people naturally possess various identities during their growth process, and these diverse identities together construct various relationship networks, intertwined with each other to form the entire environment.Chapter 3 conducts a specific textual analysis, analyzing metaphors from three dimensions: body organs, behavior, and life state.Organs bring perception of the world, and primitive instincts constantly conflict with the transformation of cities, ultimately leading to mutual exclusion, acceptance,or unilateral assimilation, all using organ metaphors;Behaviors show people’s thoughts.Faced with the rapid development of Shanghai, the shaping of the personalities, psychology, and thoughts of indigenous and foreign characters can be reflected through the description of physical behavior; The state of life indicates the ultimate outcome, and desires, pursuits, and the essence of life are most easily manifested in moments of separation and death.Through the analysis of these three dimensions,it is possible to deepen the expression of body metaphor on the author’s spiritual dimension layer by layer from shallow to deep.Chapter 4 focuses on the spiritual direction of body metaphors, revealing their shaping of the survival difficulties and attitudes of ordinary people living in Shanghai.Persisting in the pursuit of material desires is a common psychological state among urban people. If they are unwilling to give up and cannot obtain satisfaction,it can easily evolve into paranoia, leading to a series of mental problems, reflected in physical distress and alienation. However,in the midst of the hardships of life, the vast majority of people often rely on their own will to survive to alleviate this torment. They either accept their mediocrity through physical silence, face the challenges of life through physical struggles,or weigh the pros and cons through physical hesitation, all of which demonstrate the various small figures in Shanghai’s understanding and choices of life.Chapter 5 reflects on the body metaphor in new century Shanghai novels, analyzing its value and tendency.Entering the new century,Shanghai’s novel creation has gained new significance and represents the value of social ideology. The body has every scar deeply affected by political movements, and it also exists as a carrier to showcase new ideas in the new century. On the other hand, the writing of body metaphors in new century Shanghai novels also has certain limitations. The basic purpose of writers’ body metaphors is to map the mind through the body, but there is also an issue of excessive metaphor, which focuses the attention of observation on the object and leads to the neglect of the physical body as a metaphorical bridge. |
