Abstract/Summary:
Ali Bulac,as a prominent contemporary Turkish Islamic intellectual, grew up in the context of the modernization process in Turkey and the Islamic revival in the Middle East. The Westernizing tendencies of Kemal’s reforms and the homogenizing nation-state construction led him to fiercely criticize the Kemal modernization model. He argues that the Western model of modernization is not a panacea for Turkey’s problems and that the solution to Turkey’s problems still needs to rely on Islam;therefore,Islam is not just a religion, but an alternative solution to Turkey’s problems.Bulac also proposes what he considers to be an ideal society based on his critique of Kemal’s secular society, emphasizing the importance of Islamization of the population’s consciousness and of thinking and organizing their lives according to their Muslim identity. As an intellectual with a reputation in the media,Bulac’s ideas and calls were important inspiration and guidance for Turkey’s confused young generation;as a member of Turkey’s Islamic intelligentsia, his ideas in turn reflected the innovations and developments of the Islamic era.By combing Chinese and foreign research literature, this paper further analyzes the background of the era in which Bulac’s Islamic thought arose, the main contents of Islamic thought, and its social impact. The paper consists of three main parts, each of which is as follows:The first part is the introduction, which describes the origin of the topic, the current status of domestic and foreign research, theoretical and practical significance, and the innovation of this thesis. The second part is the main text, which consists of three chapters. The first chapter is divided into two parts. The first is a brief description of Braque’s life history and his main works, which clarifies his reputation as a representative of Islamic thinkers. The second is an analysis of the historical origins of Braque’s Islamic thought, the international and regional factors such as the formation of the Cold War pattern and Western intervention in Middle Eastern affairs, the conflicts in the Middle East, the rise of Islamism and Islamic revival movements in the Middle East, and the domestic factors such as Kemal’s modernization and reform, the establishment of a multi-party system and the democratization environment that influenced Braque’s exploration and thinking.Chapter 2further analyzes the main elements of Braque’s Islamic thought, mainly including his critique of Kemal’s modernization and reform, the modern nation-state and nationalism, his reconceptualization of religion and Islam, and his idea of building a pluralistic legal community model based on these analyses. The third chapter analyzes the social impact of Braque’s Islamic thought.First,it analyzes the periodicity and limitations of Braque’s Islamic thought.Second,it emphasizes that Bulac,by virtue of his influence as a media personality, has had some influence on the political platforms and social governance of Turkish political parties.Third,Bulac’s Islamic thought has had an important impact on the general public, especially the young generation, influencing their moral reshaping and shaping of social consciousness. The third part is the concluding remarks.By analyzing the commonalities and differences between the ideas of Bulac and Islamic intellectuals, the important contributions of Islamic intellectuals to Islamic innovation, modernization, and the shaping of social consciousness are clarified.
