Since the 1930 s,Japanese animation has always maintained a focus on marginalized groups in different creative periods.Whether it is abandoned individuals or generally marginalized ethnic groups, children suffering from domestic violence or neglected elderly people, women confined to the kitchen or men troubled by demons,it has received keen observation and profound presentation in Japanese animation, enriching the types of character images,It reflects the living conditions and spiritual outlook of some groups in an era. This article takes Japanese animation works as the text, takes edge images as the research object, and centers on the core issue of "edge images in Japanese animation".From the perspective of Edward Sawyer’s "third space" theory,it explores the new dimensions of edge images in Japanese animation works from four aspects: spatial pattern, type presentation, cultural psychology, and value enlightenment. In terms of spatial patterns,it expounds the dual construction relationship between people and space, that is,how the power class uses space as a form to structure the marginal groups, and how this space,as a "third space",plays a role in the "voice" and "resistance" of the marginal groups. In terms of type presentation, through sorting out the four types of marginal images: self rescuers in the "cage" of fate, marginal personalities in "captivity",mirror others in multiple positions, and anomalies in power struggles,we focus on the marginal dilemmas they have experienced, and their transition from "frustrated" in a single mode of thinking to achieving self remodeling in a more open space,Growing from passive oppression to active resistance. In terms of cultural psychology,by analyzing the common psychological characteristics of marginalized images in different times and cultural environments,it presents a diverse and complex cultural psychological structure of marginalized groups. To further appreciate the ideological connotation conveyed in Japanese animation from a deeper level. In terms of value enlightenment,it calls for people to pay attention to marginalized groups and advocate for multiple values,so as to further enhance people’s understanding of marginalized groups in reality. Some marginalized groups depicted in Japanese animation tenaciously demonstrate their helplessness, loneliness, and helplessness to the world through a difficult survival crisis. However, they also demonstrate the unique thoughts and beliefs of marginalized groups, striving to prove that they are also people with dignity, personality, and pursuit, and should not be excluded and ignored.
