| Director Rao Xiaozhi incorporates absurdity into his film works based on his reflection on and clear understanding of real-life difficulties,forming a unique cultural value and contemporary significance.This paper summarizes and organizes Director Rao’s film works,and studies the absurd artistic techniques and reflection on reality in his works,starting from the absurd characteristics represented by the characters in opposition,irrational plot settings,irony,metaphor,and symbolic imagery.Through this,the paper explores the absurd aesthetic value in his works.Firstly,by analyzing the various contradictions in the characters in opposition,the paper reveals the absurd situation of the characters.Rao Xiaozhi’s films use absurd artistic techniques such as the opposition between man and environment,man and others,and man and himself,to show the real human nature and anxiety about life,and to create an absurd atmosphere and situation where man and the world are disconnected.Secondly,the director metaphorically expresses the absurdity that exists in reality through irrational plot settings.The irrational plot settings in Rao Xiaozhi’s films are backed by the director’s rational perspective.Through setting up various coincidences and repetitive futile actions,adopting absurd and reversed expressions,the films showcase an irrational world of chance,disorder,hopelessness,and futility,highlighting the chaos and uncertainty in reality.Finally,by analyzing the rebellious tradition and dissolving the sublime absurd characteristics conveyed through image symbolisms in Rao Xiaozhi’s films,the director uses techniques such as irony,metaphor,and symbolism to imbue classic works,spaces,and objects with absurd connotations,creating an extreme sense of absurdity in a world of irrationality and life’s suffering,showing reflection and questioning on life and destiny. |
