The translation material is an informative text, taken from Reducing Consumer Food Waste Using Green and Digital Technologies, which was published on the official website of the United Nations Environment Programme in September 2021.The translator selects Chapters 1,2,and 3 as the subject matter of this translation practice and creates a translation practice report. There are four chapters in this translation practice report. The first chapter provides a description of the translation task, which provides the information about the background and characteristics of the source text, and expounds on its practical significance in translation. The preparations before translation, the translation process, and the modification after translation are all covered in detail in the second chapter. The third chapter elaborates on the problems and solutions in translation, and the first section describes the problems in detail, mainly including four problems: inaccurate translation of proper nouns and scientific and technological terms, mistranslation at the lexical level, the translationese in the complex sentences, and the lack of readability of the target language. The second section, taking Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as a reference, focuses on the corresponding solutions to the above problems. The solutions to solve the problems mainly include:determining the translation by searching parallel texts, adjusting the meanings of words according to the context, rearranging the sentences to meet the reading habits of target readers, and supplementing meanings to clearly express information. The fourth chapter summarizes unsolved problems and prospects of the translator in translation practice, providing a reference for future translation studies.Through this translation practice, the translator has accumulated some professional knowledge and learned more about intelligent technology can be used to cope with food waste.
