At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China,China was in a period of ups and downs.During this period of political turmoil,the backwardness of national economy and science and technology led to foreign wars and successive diplomatic failures,and contradictions were numerous among all social strata.The people’s life is in dire straits.A modern history of China has become a history of humiliation of China.In the critical moment of national survival,a group of people with vision to save the nation chose to study abroad and set foot on the road of trying to save the country.The political prints of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China recorded the turbulent period of China from the end of the feudal dynasty to the republic from all levels of society.Political prints record history in images.There are many media for political prints in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,including folk New Year pictures widely circulated in rural areas and news cartoons favored by urban citizens.The perspectives of viewing the country vary,and the picture styles expressed are also rich and diverse.In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,the spread of China’s political printmaking rose under the background of the eastward spread of Western learning.The development of media introduced a large number of Western paintings.The collision of eastern and western art not only had a great impact on Chinese art,but also promoted the transformation of Chinese painting from traditional to modern,thus producing new painting styles,new styles and new themes.With the introduction of Western science and technology into China,the introduction of advanced lithography technology has promoted the development of media in China’s emerging cities,deeply integrated into the life of all classes of urban society and had a profound impact on the turn of artistic aesthetics.For a time,illustrated newspapers,periodicals,newspapers and improved New Year pictures emerged one after another,thus accelerating the spread and development of current political prints.From the perspective of the changes of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,with the background of the development of political prints produced in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China under the influence of the eastward spread of Western learning,this paper analyzes the important social factors of the spread of political prints in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,and the interpretation of the main themes of political prints in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,as well as the emerging social communication media such as newspapers and pictorial newspapers,and the improved New Year pictures of traditional wood-block prints.This paper analyzes the social significance and artistic value of political print image narration in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China through the methods of integrated analysis of literature,image collection,example demonstration,comparison and research,induction and summary.Through the dissemination of books,periodicals and New Year pictures,political prints deeply influenced the aesthetic transformation of life style and living customs from feudalism to modern society during this period,and influenced the cultural movement of removing the old backward feudal culture and advocating new culture and customs.Political prints are also the image history of social development and change in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.
