Many Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces contain coins,and most studies on them have focused on the coins themselves,but less on the cultural concepts implied by them.This paper collates as much archaeological data as possible from Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces throughout China,and analyzes the condition,types,materials and locations of coins excavated from Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces,combining historical documents and information on Tang Dynasty coins.The characteristics of the coins used in Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces are discussed,and the uses and significance of the coins in the funerary process of the Tang Dynasty are elucidated in relation to the characteristics of the coins excavated from Song,Liao,and Jin tombs and terrestrial palaces,providing a deeper understanding of Tang Dynasty coins.The study also examines the coins used in Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces,elucidating the uses and significance of coins in the Tang Dynasty funerary process.The types and proportions of coins unearthed in the tombs and terrestrial palace of the Tang Dynasty can be verified with the literature.The ancient coins,ghost money,gold and silver money unearthed in tombs and terrestrial palace reflect,in a certain sense,the good wishes of their owners and act as symbols of wealth,but their functional role varies,ranging from aspirations for the future to retrospection of the past.The excavation of multiple types of coins reflects the cultural exchange between the various regions.The number of coins unearthed in the tombs has a relationship with the identity of the owner,but not an absolute one.Through the analysis of the unearthed location of coins,it is found that the type and type of coins in Tang Dynasty tombs and terrestrial palaces are generally not distinguished,but the expensive coins are generally placed in the position close to the tomb owner.The main significance of placing coins in tombs is to symbolize the wealth of the tomb owner.On the other hand,it provides money for the world after the death of the tomb owner.Moreover,the placement of some coins may have had the connotation of wishing the tomb owner "rise to heaven" or "the future generations are free from disease".An analysis of the use of coins in the funeral process of the Tang Dynasty reveals that the Tang people simplified or increased the regulations and forms during the funeral preparation.The funeral customs of accompanying coins in the Tang Dynasty no period of turnover,the performance of its funeral customs is generally multi-point or in a single area agreed upon.Inheriting the Tang system,the number of coins unearthed from tombs and terrestrial palaces rose in the Song,Liao and Jin Dynasties.The tombs and terrestrial palace of Song,Liao and Jin Dynasties are placed with more exorcism numismatics and the placement of coins has the characteristics of realistic significance.
