| Environmental sensitivity is an individual’s ability to perceive and process external environmental stimuli, which is one of its most basic traits. The environmental sensitivity meta-theory shows that there are huge differences in the sensitivity of individuals to the environment, and individuals with high environmental sensitivity are more susceptible to environmental influences. After entering university,a series of changes have occurred in the environment and interpersonal network of freshmen, and freshmen with high environmental sensitivity are more susceptible to such changes than other similar groups, which further affects their academic level, interpersonal relationships, school adaptation, etc. Therefore, this study uses a combination of quantitative research and qualitative research to explore the influencing factors of high adaptability of freshmen in highly environmentally sensitive universities. This study consists of the following three parts:First, localize the English version of The Highly Sensitive Person Scale(HSP).For Chinese college students,750 effective scales were initially tested and 519 effective scales were recovered, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used to form a college students’ environmental sensitivity scale with good reliability and validity.Second, the relationship between environmental sensitivity and the adaptability of college freshmen. The revised environmental sensitivity scale and freshman adaptability scale were used to survey 531 college freshmen, explore the overall status of environmental sensitivity and adaptability of college freshmen and the characteristics of demographic variables, and analyze and discuss the relationship between the two.Third, the influencing factors of high adaptability of freshmen in highly environmentally sensitive universities.Firstly, the college freshmen with both the total score of environmental sensitivity and the total score of adaptability were identified as subjects with high environmental sensitivity and high adaptability at the same time, comprehensively considering factors such as research content, group heterogeneity, and respondents’ wishes, and following ethics and morality,10 freshmen with high environmental sensitivity and high adaptability were screened for interviews, and the text data obtained were sorted, analyzed and coded step by step,so as to explore the factors that achieved good adaptation,so as to supplement and improve the shortcomings of quantitative research.and make interpretive conclusions. The conclusions of the study are as follows:First, the revised Chinese version of the College Students’ Environmental Sensitivity Scale has a total of 22 items, including three dimensions: irritation, low sensory threshold and high profile. It has good reliability and validity, and can be used as an effective tool to measure and evaluate the environmental sensitivity level of college students in China.Second, the environmental sensitivity and adaptability of freshmen are generally at a medium level.Among them,non-only children are more sensitive than only children, girls are more sensitive than boys, but girls are more adaptable than boys.Third, there is a significant negative correlation between environmental sensitivity and freshman adaptation, and environmental sensitivity has a negative predictive effect on freshman adaptability.Fourth, freshmen with high environmental sensitivity have specific manifestations in many aspects, such as light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, concern for others’ evaluation, attention to others’ subtle actions, and academic comparison. After encoding, this part of the content can be extracted as physiological sensitivity, psychological sensitivity, relationship sensitivity, and social comparison.Fifth, freshmen in highly environment-sensitive universities will experience a series of practical challenges after enrollment, such as environmental gaps, changes in social circles, changes in academic styles, suppressed anxiety, and disappointed school expectations.Encoded in this section,it can be extracted as sensitive awareness and sensitive reaction.Sixth, the Eco map on high adaptable freshman with high environmental sensitivity depicts its positive resources for increasing adaptability, reflects the interplay between external-driven change(self-adjustment)and internal-driven adjustment(growth perception),freshmen with high environmental sensitivity and high adaptability face a series of challenges, adjust and improve the level of adaptability, after encoding, this part can be extracted as cognitive regulation, emotion management,self-care,support seeking, meaning search, and growth perception. |
