| Choice deferral refers to the situation that individuals do not make choices temporarily when they should make choices. It is a common behavior of decision avoidance in our daily life.As an important sensory system for human survival, taste affects many types of decision-making,and sour taste is a special one of the five basic tastes,so this study aims to explore the impact of sour taste on choice deferral. From consciousness level to behavior level, from image priming to real experience, this study has conducted in-depth exploration of the influence at different levels through three experiments.Experiment 1 found a metaphorical relationship between taste words and choice deferral words through the implicit association test, the concept of choice deferral has a connection tendency of "sour-immediate choice,tasteless-delayed choice".In Experiment 2,image priming was used to explore the impact of sour taste priming on choice deferral through decision-making task. The results showed that compared with subjects who started with tasteless food pictures, those who had sour taste image priming had a lower probability to deffer the choice, and this impact only exists in decision situations of high conflict level. In experiment 3,it was found that subjects who tasted sour solution had a lower tendency to delay decision than those who tasted sweet, bitter, and water. To sum up,sour taste will affect individuals’ tendency of choice deferral. This study shows that the basic sense has a close relationship and significant impact on decision-making and other behaviors of our daily life. |
