The Research On The Poetic Paradigm And Its Shift Of The World Republic Of Letters

Against the backdrop of globalization,various geographical spaces are increasingly interconnected,and cultural forms and aesthetic experiences from different corners,ethnicities,personalities,and "margins" are becoming more active,posing a strong challenge to the Western-centric world literary concept.This trend has prompted more theorists to participate in the construction of models of world literature,and Pascal Casanova has proposed the theory of the "World Republic of Letters",which has paradigmatic significance.At present,the study of the poetics of the " World Republic of Letters " mostly stays at the critical level,fails to pay attention to the paradigm crisis behind the theoretical defects,and ignores the potential of its paradigm shift,which needs to be further elaborated and constructed.This paper takes Pascal Casanova’s idea of the "World Republic of Letters" as a research perspective,explores its paradigmatic significance and theoretical value of paradigm transformation,and reflects on the poetics of the world literature that challenges European-centrism and reconstructs the equal world literary community.The content is mainly divided into four chapters: the genealogy,connotation,limitations,and paradigm shift of the "World Republic of Letters " poetics paradigm.The genealogy of the poetic paradigm of the "World Republic of Letters" is built on the unique form of the "Republic" proposed by Cassanova.Tracing back to the embryonic stage in Plato’s "Republic",the paradigm develops from the idealistic ethics of the ideal state to the practical political system of the Republic.The position of the poet constantly changes,from being considered as a breeding ground for base emotions and being expelled to existing as a political follower.After a millennium since Plato,Cassanova calls back the "expelled" poets,giving them high esteem and establishing an ideal country for poets and literature,named “The World Republic of Letters”.In the connotation of the “World Republic of Letters” poetic paradigm,the theories of the French yearbook historical school historian Brodell and sociologist Bourdieu have been internalized as the operating mechanism.The Republic is established in the form of a “capital” and the “Greenwich Meridian”,establishing the principle of “center-periphery” in the literary world,with the center holding absolute discourse power.The periphery can only make its literature visible by accessing the center,and the “sanctification” of the center is the only way to construct the literary production mechanism.Translation,as the core link in “sanctification,” evaluates“classics” and interprets the literary scene of production and capital.Writers in the periphery adopt strategies of assimilation or rebellion,existing in the metaphorical global literary map of the “World Republic of Letters.” The “World Republic of Letters” identifies global literature on a national scale,becoming a paradigm with theoretical significance in poetics.Joyce and other writers exist in the “World Republic of Letters” as revolutionaries and rebels,showing the anomalies of the “World Republic of Letters”poetic paradigm as the most unstable and turbulent element,revealing the limitations of the poetic paradigm.The form of the Republic exhibits elitism,and the center-periphery model reveals the drawbacks of European centrism;the internal operating mechanism is unequal,and the horizontal organizational structure is hierarchical;the textual presentation is dominant,showing characteristics of textualism and desk-bound culture,with the lack of oral literature and living culture from prehistory;the methodology of nationalism is weak in historical duration and lacks interpretive power,which cannot extend to prehistoric texts and cannot govern the massive data of the present information age.The limitations of the poetic paradigm of the “World Republic of Letters” are more exposed in the contemporary information age,and a paradigm crisis has emerged in the midst of internal and external difficulties.It is urgent to develop new theory to solve new problems and meet new demands,in order to achieve a paradigm shift in poetics.The new paradigm of Planetary Poetics,generated through the flow of creation,fits in with contemporary issues in the field of poetics.Using the methodological approach of long-distance reading,it critiques the traditional approach of close reading,and offers a panoramic view of literary texts and forms on a larger scale,utilizing metaphors such as trees and waves as a background framework.With a planetary perspective that embraces diversity and multiple perspectives,it explores the “Anthropocene” planetary principles embedded in geological layers and aspires to create an ecological planet that is equal and open.This approach signifies a paradigm shift from the “World Republic of Letters” to the Planetary poetics,and the practice of Silk Road poetics is a prime example of this inclusive paradigm,pointing the way toward a more profound and promising future.
