This translation project is selected from The Regulation of Digital Trade,a policy research document of World Bank, which lists the regulatory and legal issues of digital trade and analyzes the main policies of various countries and international trends. The policy research document belongs to economic and trade text as well as a typical informational text. This type of text requires relevant information to be expressed objectively and accurately. Also,it requires rigorous logic and concise writing, avoiding the use of cumbersome syntax, while non-predicate verb structure can achieve this goal.In addition, the non-predicate verb structure can also give the language great creativity and vivid expressiveness. It can optimize the sentence structure through flexible shifts to avoid loose sentence forms and ambiguous meanings. When translating The Regulation of Digital Trade, the author found that a large number of non-predicate verb structures were used in the text, which were difficult to understand and deal with because of their complex structure and variable form. For the better understanding and grasp of the translation of non-predicate verb structure in the source text, the author intends to analyze the differences between Chinese and English sentence structure and the definition and classification of non-predicate verb structure.Under the direction of Catford’s translation shifts theory, this report analyzes the difficulties in E-C translation of non-predicate verb structures, and proposes targeted translation methods through translation practice such as part-of-speech shifts method, component shifts method and rank shifts method.Through this translation practice, the author has a further understanding of the translation methods of non-predicate verb structure, and has mastered more knowledge about the regulation of digital trade, thus improving the translation ability. It is expected that this report can provide reference for the translation practice of economic and trade texts in the future, and provide some suggestions for the translation of non-predicate verb structures in the future.
