The myth of Chang ’e originated in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States period,which was shaped,disseminated and developed widely in the Qin and Han Dynasties.The myth of Chang ’e flying to the moon has evolved several times in the long development process,which appears in poetry,novels,paintings,sculptures and other artistic carriers.The myth of the goddess of the Moon has had a profound impact on Chinese culture,and its cultural connotation has left an indelible mark.The origin of Chang ’e myth is closely related to the immortal medicine,the West Queen Mother,toad(frog)belief and the moon myth.Secondly,it analyzes the changes in the spreading process of Chang ’e myth according to the three carriers of folklore,image documents and classical documents.The myth of the goddess of the Moon has local characteristics in folklore,which reflects the evolution from a single version to a variety of versions.The image literature reflects the change from primitive religion to art;There are four stages of transformation in the classical literature.Chang ’e image has different characteristics in Han Dynasty,Wei,Jin,Tang,Song,Yuan and Ming and Qing dynasties.Based on the diachronic research,the change process of Chang ’e image is well presented.Although the myth of Chang ’e flying to the moon in the Han Dynasty is mixed with fairy tales,its spirit is still vigorous on the whole.Chang ’e embodies the dual spirit of resistance to the length of life,the spatial limitations of life and social order.The myth of Chang ’e flying to the moon became a fairy tale in the Tang Dynasty.The image of Chang ’e in the poems and bronze mirrors of Wei,Jin,Tang and Song dynasties was like a cool and beautiful and transcendental goddess of the moon.Chang ’e in the poems became an aesthetic image integrating tenderness,solitude,cold and elegant.The image of Chang ’e in the Yuan Dynasty showed a variety of characteristics.She was not only a giver of official position,a goddess in the moon,but also a beautiful woman on the earth.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Chang ’e’s image experienced a secular transformation from human to divine,which became more complex and diverse.The change of Chang ’e’s image is due to the double influence of the fashion of The Times and the historical and cultural form.The cultural implication of the myth of Chang ’e flying to the moon is mainly reflected in the Mid-Autumn folk custom and the concept of Yin and Yang.The rise of the custom of offering sacrifices to the moon and the embedding of the moon myth gradually developed into the traditional Chinese festival of the Mid-Autumn Festival.The cultural origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Chang ’e myth all come from the worship of the moon.Subsequently,the combination of the myth of Chang ’e and the Mid-Autumn Festival custom also makes the Chang ’e myth glow with new vitality.The lunar cultural characteristics of the myth of Chang’e Flying to the Moon,the union of Chang’e and Hou Yi made them the mate gods and the attach importance to the process and experience of life from Confucianism and Taoism makes the myth of Chang’e reveal the tragic meaning are the deep embodiment of the concept of Yin and Yang in the myth of Chang ’e.
