| At present, the teaching of English grammar in junior high schools in China focuses more on grammatical knowledge rather than the meaning and the use of grammar, resulting in the separation of grammatical knowledge, meaning and usage, which accordingly leads to the problem of weak English grammatical competence of junior high school students. The Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards: English(2022 Edition)advocates useoriented 3D grammar teaching, organically integrating form, meaning and use into the English grammar teaching of junior high schools,so as to achieve the effective development of English grammatical competence of junior high school students.Based on the theory of Larsen-Freeman’s 3D grammar teaching, the author, taking the ninth-grade students of a junior high school in Sichuan Province as the research subject and adopting both quantitative and qualitative methods such as questionnaires, interviews, tests and classroom observation, aims to explore the following three research questions:(1)What are the current problems in grammar teaching of the passive voice in junior high schools?(2)How can 3D grammar teaching of the passive voice be applied effectively in junior high schools?(3)How does 3D grammar teaching affect students’ development of grammatical competence of the passive voice? The findings are as follows:(1)The current problems of English grammar teaching of the passive voice in junior high schools mainly lie in teachers’ neglect of the practicality and the communicative nature of grammar teaching;Students, with limited understanding of grammatical meaning, are unable to flexibly apply grammatical knowledge in the real contexts.(2)When designing 3D grammar teaching of the passive voice in junior high schools,it is necessary to organically integrate the three dimensions of grammatical form, meaning and use,and establish an effective mechanism of corrective feedback.Specifically, teachers lay emphasis on presenting the grammatical structures of the passive voice to attract students’ attention and promote effective input, apply the thematic contexts to enhance students’ understanding of grammatical meaning of the passive voice and adopt diversified communicative and productive activities to drive students’ production of the target grammar.(3)3D grammar teaching can improve students’ sentence monitoring and production skills of the passive voice to a certain extent, and maximize their sentence manipulating skills of the passive voice, thereby positively affecting the grammatical competence of junior high school students. In view of this, pedagogical suggestions are proposed:(1)English teachers of junior high schools should establish a correct sense of 3D grammar teaching, attaching importance to the three dimensions of grammar teaching, and comprehensively improving the English grammatical competence of junior high school students.(2)They should fully exert students’ grammar production ability and maximize the transformation of students’ grammatical competence from knowledge to use.(3)They should effectively use the corrective feedback, giving students’ timely feedback and correction in the three dimensions of grammatical form, meaning, and use. |
