A Research On The Current "Confucian Virtue Ethics Revival Theory"

Virtue ethics is one of the current mainstream thoughts in the field of ethics.Under the influence of the revival of Western virtue ethics,there has been an academic trend in ethics in the past 20 years to study traditional Chinese Confucian ethics with Western virtue ethics,which is called "the revival of Confucian virtue ethics".So far,this academic phenomenon still shows a relatively strong development momentum,forming three research directions: “Comparing Chinese philosophy with the western philosophy”,“Explaining the Chinese philosophy with the western philosophy” and “Responding the western philosophy with Chinese philosophy.” These three directions are represented by highly influential scholars such as Yu Jiyuan,Chen Lai,and Huang Yong.They regarded Confucian ethics as a kind of virtue ethics,and they interpreted Confucian virtue ethics from the perspective of comparative philosophy.While showing the contemporary value of Confucian ethics,they also tried their best to realize the contemporary revival of Confucian virtue ethics.The interpretation of Confucian virtue ethics by "the revival of Confucian virtue ethics" is a new attempt in Confucianism research.The scholars of "Comparison between China and the West" represented by Yu Jiyuan interpret Confucian virtue ethics with reference to Western virtue ethics,and compare the two virtue ethics between China and the West,showing Confucian ethics as a virtue ethics.form and characteristics.Scholars who are represented by Chen Lai in "Western and Chinese" interpret Confucian virtue ethics from the perspective of virtue ethics,and emphasize that Confucian virtue ethics is only a part of Confucian ethics,so as to show the characteristics of Confucian ethics itself.Through the microinterpretation of Confucian virtue ethics,the scholars who "according to the West" represented by Huang Yong focused on making Confucian ethics directly participate in the discussion of contemporary Western virtue ethics issues,in order to reverse the role of Confucian ethics in Western philosophy.Unsatisfactory situation in the world.However,the interpretation of Confucian virtue ethics by "the revival of Confucian virtue ethics" also exposes its own shortcomings.We must treat this academic phenomenon dialectically.
