| The source text of the translation report is extracted from Genome UK: The Future of Healthcare, policy paper published by the British government. The selected source text, which includes its preface and the first two chapters, and totals 12201 words in all, introduces the development process of genomics and its achievements and points out three directions of genomics development in the UK.The source text falls into one of the scientific and technological texts related to medical translation with its own distinctive language features.Rigor, logicality and specialty characterize the source text. This translation report is under the guidance of Vinay and Darbelnet’s methodology and makes a detailed analysis and explanation through concrete examples. In Comparative Stylistic of French and English,J.P.Vinay and J.Darbelnet have made a comprehensive comparative analysis of these two languages from three aspects:vocabulary, information and syntactic structure. In this book, the two authors have proposed two strategies: 1)direct translation which involves three translation procedures, borrowing, calque, and literal translation, and 2)oblique translation which contains four translation procedures, transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation.Guided by Vinay & Darbelnet’s translation methodology, this thesis summarizes and analyzes the application of two strategies and seven procedures by analyzing 26 typical examples in the author’s partial translation practice from English to Chinese. It is believed that this translation methodology is of great guiding significance for translators translating scientific texts, because the seven procedures cover a wide range of translation tips, and they are targeted and specific to concrete problems, which help translators adopt corresponding translation methods accurately and flexibly in order to yield authentic and acceptable translation. |
