Abstract/Summary:
The surrealism school, which was born in the 20 th century, overthrew the traditional cultural system with rationalism as the core, and its unique aesthetic value and revolutionary thinking value had a profound impact on the later generations. On the basis of cubism liberation painting,it broke through the shackles of traditional aesthetics more thoroughly, gradually got rid of the discussion of "how to express the objective world",and turned to the study of how to express people’s inner world. The interpretation of surrealism in Hegel’s philosophy is modernity, which simultaneously contains the attributes of moment, transience and eternity. This is precisely the absurdity of surrealist art, which needs to be understood and grasped in multiple meanings. In this paper, the expression of absurdity in surrealist paintings is taken as the entry point, and through the analysis of the works of representative artists, the expression forms of absurdity in surrealist paintings are summarized.Surrealism takes "what to paint" as the core of expression.Through the transformation and reshaping of reality, surrealist artists create another kind of "real reality" with the help of images and symbols to present the subconscious creation, and use dream, illusion and subconscious elements to convey artists’ thinking on the relationship between art and reality. This paper focuses on discussing the formal language of this school one by one from three aspects: the origin of absurdity, the form of expression and the aesthetic value,so as to understand the creative idea and aesthetic approach of surrealism more completely. Finally, based on the analysis and comparison of artists’ works,I apply this form of expression in my own creative practice and feel the unique charm of absurdity in the process of practice.
