As a female poet who occupies an important place in the history of American poetry,Marianne Moore(1887-1972)has a unique poetry that is very different from her contemporaries,in large part because of her love of visual arts, especially modern visual art in Europe and the United States and ancient Chinese visual art. This paper mainly takes Moore’s contact experience with visual art as the research guide, takes Moore’s poetry with visual art characteristics as the research text, and comprehensively explores the artistic characteristics of Moore poetry under the influence of Chinese and Western visual arts. The first chapter mainly expounds the broad background of Moore’s contact with Chinese and western visual arts in the early 20 th century.Through a large number of materials,it can be concluded that,on the one hand, due to the prosperity of modern art in American art circles and the integration of poetry and painting in literary circles,Moore was influenced by modern art in Europe and America in American cities. On the other hand, the upsurge of China in American museums and personal collections at the same time,as well as the China art craze in modernist poetry creation, also made Moore deeply immersed in the charm of China’s ancient visual art.The second chapter mainly analyzes Moore’s reference to modern visual arts in Europe and America.According to the comprehensive combing,it is found that Moore’s poems are closely related to two art categories in modern visual arts in Europe and America.First,as far as photography art is concerned,Moore has integrated the photography idea of Stieglitz and the photography technique of avant-garde montage into the expression of poetry.Secondly,as far as painting art is concerned,Moore draws lessons from cubism’s collage skills, and creates collage-like surface construction, metaphorical space and perspective wandering in his poems. The third chapter focuses on Moore’s fit with ancient Chinese visual art.For Moore, what impressed Moore the most was her Chinese aesthetics and philosophical concepts, which were in line with her own concepts.Through this fit,Moore identified and established a Chinese view of nature and dialectical thinking from ancient Chinese visual art,and then strengthened and perfected his poetry concept through these Chinese wisdoms. The conclusion aims to draw the conclusion of Moore’s acceptance of the influence of Chinese and western visual arts from a macro perspective, sum up the significance of the research, put forward the shortcomings of the research and look forward to the future research direction.
