| As an outstanding representative of American modern poets,Marianne Moore(1887-1972)has an indispensable place in modern poetry with her unique poetic rhythm, detailed descriptive technique and sincere poetic ideas.Throughout Moore’s entire poetry career,it is nature that is the protagonist of the poet’s poetry, especially the poet’s description of animals.More than half of Moore’s poems are directly or indirectly related to animals.Along with the poet’s brushstrokes, readers can see the ecological world described by the poet, such as abundant plants, and colorful country life. But at the same time,as a poet who loves nature so much,Moore used her sharp eyes to see through human’s oppression on nature, and relentlessly disclosed human’s possession and destruction of nature with sharp poetic language. Moreover,in a society where males are authoritative,Moore suffers from prejudice as a female poet.Moore criticized the oppression from Phelps’ centralism against women through her poetry. Thus, nature and women in poetry have something in common, and it is precisely Moore who is a female nature-loving poet becomes the connection. This article is based on critical ecofeminism attempting to analyze Moore’s poems from three aspects, the construction of ecofeminism, the deconstruction of anthropocentrism and Philescentism, and the reconstruction of harmonious relations.Ecological feminism is the product of the third feminist trend, and it is a combination of ecologism and feminism. As a new theory of literary criticism, ecofeminism has strong vitality. The critical ecological feminism proposed by Val Plumwood advocates a dialectical view of the relationship between nature and women, and claims that women should consciously stand with nature. In addition,Plumwood believes that the root of binary opposition lies in Logos-centrism,and the solution to the opposition is to break the traditional logical framework of dualism,re-understand the relationship between man and nature, male and female and get rid of Binary Opposition. This article is based on Plumwood’s critical ecofeminism theory, and analyzes the ecofeminism in Moore’s poetry.Moore is a female poet who loves nature. As a connection point between nature and women,on the one hand, the poet describes the natural connection between nature and women in poems, playing the same role as "others" and also as objects of slavery under logos-centrism,putting forward the dualistic thinking characteristics, and thus the poet’s ecological feminism is constructed;while on the other hand,Moore also deconstructed anthropocentrism and masculinism by writing on non-human natural subjects and by resisting against the ecological feminism of Phyllis. In addition,Moore also put forward ecological warnings in her poetry, expressing the poet’s call for protecting nature, eliminating gender discrimination, and building a harmonious world. |
