The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition)proposes to cultivate students’ ability to do things in English.That is,to cultivate students’ ability to speak,write and translate effectively in English in real communication.Writing is a thinking process in which students extract and produce knowledge stored in memory.It is an important part of students’ comprehensive language ability.Senior high school students generally think that writing is a difficult language skill for them.Students learn a lot of vocabularies and grammar,but they cannot apply them fluently and correctly in their real writing.In the traditional English classroom,students need to complete the writing assigned by the English teacher independently after class.And students lack the guidance of teachers in the content,language and structure of the composition.At the same time,the evaluation method is relatively single,mainly the teacher’s evaluation,which neglects the role of students’ initiative and peers’ assistance,affecting the improvement of students’ English composition,showing a clear separation of learning and using.In order to solve the problem of separation of learning and using in foreign language teaching in Chinese universities,Professor Wen Qiufang and her team put forward the production-oriented approach.The application of production-oriented approach to English writing teaching effectively solves the separation of learning and using.However,most of the research subjects are college students,and there are few English writing teaching in senior high school.Therefore,the author tries to apply the production-oriented approach to English writing teaching in senior high school.Under such situation,this thesis intends to adopt an action research method to explore the effects of the implementation of POA on students’ writing interest,writing attitude,and writing quality.Under the guidance of input hypothesis,output hypothesis theory,this thesis aims to solve the following three key problems according to the implementation process of action research and the teaching procedures of POA.(1)What are the effects of POA on senior high school students’ writing interest ?(2)What are the effects of POA on senior high school students’ writing attitude ?(3)What are the effects of POA on senior high school students’ writing quality in terms of language,content and structure ?In this thesis,51 students from Class 18,Grade 1 of Qing Zhen No.1 Senior High School in Guiyang were selected as the research subjects of this action research,and the implementation time was 4 months.Two rounds of action research were carried out through the research model of “planning,implementation,reflection,adjustment and re-implementation.” The data were collected through tests,questionnaires,interviews and teacher’s logs and analyzed by SPSS 25.After analysis and discussion,this author draws the following three research results.First of all,after the implementation of the two rounds of production-oriented approach in writing teaching,the students’ writing quality has been significantly improved,mainly reflected in the content,language and structure of the composition.That is,students’ compositions are more fluent than before;writing vocabularies are more abundant;expressions are more diversified;the structure of writing is more complete;and they will pay more attention to the logic and coherence of language.Secondly,students’ interest in English writing has also increased greatly.That is,students are more interested in writing,and students look forward to having more writing classes in the future.Finally,students change their attitude towards English writing.That is,most students are aware of the importance of English writing,and they will take the initiative to accumulate more writing vocabularies than before;they will also actively communicate with peers and revise each other’s composition,and they will also ask teachers and classmates for help when they encounter problems.Therefore,it can be seen that the implementation of POA in senior high school English writing teaching is effective,which provides positive guidance and reference for front-line teachers’ English writing teaching and future research in the field of POA.
