According to the English Curriculum Standard for General High School(2020 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as Curriculum Standard),qualified high school students are capable of expressing themselves effectively in English and solving daily problems after systematic learning of English writingTo meet the Curriculum Standard’s requirements and enhance students’ writing performance,this thesis studies the effects of the application of Production-oriented Approach to English writing teaching in senior high school.The following two questions have been dealt with during this study:1.What are the effects of POA on the students’ English writing performance?2.What are the changes of the students’ perception of English writing after POA writing teaching in senior high school?Two sophomore classes in a senior high school have been selected as the participants,one is the control class and the other is experimental class.In this eighteen-weeks study,both classes used the Selective Compulsory English textbooks 3 and Selective Compulsory English textbooks 4.In the control class,teachers used task-based language teaching method,while in the experimental class,teachers used the POA.Data collected from questionnaires and writing tests were analyzed by SPSS 26.0,and supplemented with interview to address the research questions.The results of data analysis show:(1)Compared to task-based language teaching,the POA applied to teaching English writing in senior high school was more effective in improving students’ writing performance.(2)POA can enhance students’ writing abilities in terms of idea,language,and structure.(3)POA in writing instruction can provide assistance in the acquisition process of language components,enabling students to better grasp linguistic items.(4)The POA improved students’ perception toward content,language,and structure in English writing.The following two implications were put forward based on research results:(1)When teachers apply the POA to teaching English writing,they should set goals according to students’ levels.(2)When teachers use the POA in teaching writing,they should provide students with as much encouragement as possible and encourage them to complete each writing task,so as to gradually develop students’ confidence in writing.
