Learning ability is a key quality in the key qualities group of English subject,and it is a necessary and key ability for students to develop in learning English.Learning ability refers to the ability of students to adjust English learning strategies actively,enrich learning channels and resources consciously,and strive to improve the efficiency of English learning according to their actual situation in English learning.Compared with language ability,cultural awareness and thinking quality,learning ability has more obvious objective characteristics and plays a purposeful and key role in the development of key qualities of English subjects.Therefore,English learning ability is of great significance in developing the key qualities of English subject and improving the effect of English learning.The research shows that since the implementation of General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition 2020 Revision),the implementation of the key qualities of English subject has achieved obvious results.Teachers’ understanding and implementation of the key qualities and students’ development of the key qualities have made remarkable progress.However,there are still many problems and deficiencies in the cultivation of the key qualities of English subject,especially in the cultivation and development of students’ English learning ability,it is mainly reflected in the insufficient understanding of the importance learning ability,as well as the lack of reasonable,effective,scientific and pragmatic implementation strategies in the cultivation and development of English learning ability.Based on the above considerations,in order to comprehensively and deeply understand the current situation of cultivation and development of high school students’ English learning ability,sort out and analyze the existing problems and deficiencies,and put forward reasonable suggestions for improvement,this research takes humanistic learning theory and constructivism learning theory as the theoretical basis,selects the senior one students and English teachers of Ningxia xx High School as the research objects.Focusing on the self-management ability,the use of learning strategy,learning attitude,the use and selection of learning resources,the achievement of learning efficiency,the cultivation and development of high school students’ English learning ability was investigated,and the research conclusions were obtained and suggestions for improvement were put forward.The results show that the current situation of the development and cultivation of English learning ability of senior one students is not ideal.Among them,the students have poor self-management ability,weak ability to use learning strategies,single learning resources,lack of interest and confidence in English learning,and low efficiency of English learning.The teachers showed some problems,such as lack of understanding of the English curriculum standard and learning ability,single use of teaching resources,ignorance the training of learning strategies,and neglect of the use of teaching evaluation.The study puts forward some reasonable suggestions to promote the cultivation and development of high school students’ English learning ability.
